Work & Learn From The Cottage

We learned a lot about remote working and learning in the last two years, and as we begin 2022, it looks like cabin fever could be in the cards again. This time though, how about ramping it up and get away to an actual cabin?

What you need to bring

While you can select cottages that have unlimited Wifi for Zoom meetings and online lessons, you’ll still need a few extras to make the transition from home to cottage a bit easier.

Printer – it’s unlikely you’ll find a printer to use at the cottage so either bring your own, or buy an inexpensive wireless model like this Pixma from Amazon.

Paper – if you’re going to need to do some printing don’t forget a pack of paper as well.

External Hard Drive – really handy if there are several family members and you want to share a laptop. Just make sure you have everything downloaded onto the drive before you leave home.

Back-up Battery Pack – for when power outages happen, as they occasionally do, in cottage country. No excuses then for continuing on working and learning.

Make time for fun

Last year amidst the ever-changing numbers and regulations, my girls and I had the chance to take a quick trip to Eastern Ontario and it gave us the rejuvenation we needed!

They didn’t miss a moment of class by taking advantage of the WIFI at the cottage and I was able to work just as I would have in my home office!

The best part was that while they were in class, not missing a moment of instruction, those lunch and snack breaks were used to explore and experience cottage country, not just run to the kitchen pantry to snack or hop on their tablets!

Rent some snow-shoes or just winter hike the cottage roads; try out some outdoor skating, or take a half-day trip to a local ski hill. There is plenty to do to enjoy the fresh air and pristine snow you’ll find in our beautiful cottage locations.

Many of our cottages feature unlimited wifi and are perfect for quiet getaways.  Zoom calls, client meetings and school lessons can all take place just as they would in your own living room!  Over the past 20 months, we have been encouraging our owners to up their WIFI game for this very reason, and many have been able to.  We’ve added a filter on the master calendar to help you highlight these!
