When you’re staying in one of our Ontario cottage rentals near Parry Sound, there are plenty of ways to get outside and enjoy nature, like hiking or paddling the local rivers. However, one of the most popular ways to enjoy the great outdoors around here is by cycling! Parry Sound cycling offers some of the best conditions you can find in Ontario, and we’re here to help you make the most of it.
Out-and-Back Routes
First, you’ll want to know where exactly you can cycle. Luckily, there are quite a few out-and-back routes in the area that are ideal for any skill level, so you can experience the stunning surroundings no matter what.
Oastler Lake
This route will take you a total of 14 kilometers from Trysport Inc. (a local bike shop; more on that in a minute) to Oastler Lake Provincial Park. You will experience a bit of an ascent on this trip for a total climb of nearly 86 meters (282 feet). Along this route, you’ll have stunning views of the water from every turn, so you can stop when you please to dip your toes in the lake or enjoy a picnic on the shore. There are also a few quaint restaurants along the route, such as the Log Cabin Inn.
Nobel Beach
If you want something longer, this route takes you 25 kilometers total and has a total ascent of almost 170 meters (558 feet). You’ll leave from Parry Sound Bikes and eventually make your way down Big Sound Road to reach Nobel Beach. There are designated bike lanes for much of this route to guarantee your safety. Additionally, Nobel Beach itself has tons of great amenities once you get there, including a water fountain and a playground for the kids.
Horseshoe Lake
The trip to Horseshoe Lake and back is a total of 35 kilometers, departing from Parry Sound Bikes. All in all, you’ll experience an ascent of more than 304 meters (997 feet). As you head through the trail, you’ll find yourself passing the Highway Rest Stop in Parry Sound, which is a great place to pull off for a break. There are several restaurants here, including a Dairy Queen and a Tim Horton’s, as well as a small general store. If you don’t want to tackle this route alone, Parry Sound Bikes offers group rides on Tuesdays and Saturdays!
Blackstone Crane Lake
Finally, leaving from Tryspot and coming to Blackstone Crane Lake and back will have you riding for a total of 60 kilometers with an ascent of 612 meters (2008 feet). This route is simply gorgeous any time of year and offers a breathtaking view of several lakes as you ride. Blackstone Crane Lake is a truly stunning and relaxing destination that you just don’t want to miss when you’re staying in one of our cottage rentals in Ontario!
