Family Day is a fairly new statutory holiday in Ontario; at less than 20 years old traditions are just starting to be created. We often hear of families wondering what exciting things to do in the middle of winter, that will get them out of the house and enjoying each other’s company, all while making memories.
Bring your family together and head up to a cottage! While the lake is frozen and everything is covered in a blanket of snow, it is a completely new experience. Once you test the ice for safety to ensure it is ready for skating or ice fishing, it’s an experience the whole family can enjoy. Looking to get out on the trails? Have a competitive bunch? Why not take advantage of the open space and have a weekend full of competitions? Snow fort or snowman building is fun at any age and doesn’t really require any skill. Take up sand toys and create all kinds of shapes to decorate your masterpieces! Get creative and challenge everyone to build anything but a snowman and see what masterpieces they come up with!
After a day in the snow, warm up inside by a roaring fire, enjoy a dip in the hot tub or relax in one of the saunas that many of our properties offer. Some of our Ontario Cottage Rentals boast game rooms with pool & ping pong tables and even some of our favourite arcade games from when we were kids! You could introduce your children to PacMan for example and impress them with your arcade skills as an unexpected bonus!
