About Prince Edward County’s Wine Industry

Prince Edward County has been recognized as a Designated Viticultural Area and holds nearly 40 wineries for you and your group to check out. But what makes this area so well-equipped for wine? The secret lies in the soil. Here, the soils are full of limestone, which is quite unique to Prince Edward County. This soil and its unique qualities grant an exceptional taste to the wines grown here, so as soon as the flavor hits your lips, you’re bound to notice the difference.

No matter what kind of experience you’re looking for, you can find it here. You’ll discover some quiet and picturesque venues while others have tons of fun activities throughout the year. Plus, you’re sure to find a delicious wine regardless of your preference.

Prince Edward County Wineries

There are countless wineries you can choose to visit just moments from our cottage rentals in Ontario. To start, you may enjoy a trip to the Bergeron Estate Winery and Cider Company, where you can get a cold drink and a gourmet pizza as you gaze out over the southern-facing vineyard on the property.

Broken Stone Winery is also popular, a family-run operation specializing in delicious Pinot Noir. If you’re looking for Chardonnay, head to By Chadsey’s Cairns Winery, or for Pinot Gris or Riesling, plan a trip to the Casa-Dea Estates Winery. Other wineries have their own unique features besides the wine varieties. Experience a completely solar-powered winery at Harwood Estate, step into an 1805 barn at Karlo Estates, or check out the Hinterland Wine Company, located within a former dairy barn!
