On the outskirts of Havelock, past the Jamboree grounds, down a long, windy road, sits picturesque Osprey Cottage. At only an hour and a half from the Durham Region, Osprey is an easy drive that’s doable by families with young children, the elderly and even pets. I visited Osprey in August 2015 with family and friends and of course, our dogs, as you can see in the photos. This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom property boots all the comforts of home while being on the beautiful Crowe River!
While it was just family at Osprey, the vacation was quiet and low key, which the cottage easily accommodated. The days consisted of coffee and breakfast on the deck, reading on the lawn, suntanning on the dock and taking a dip in the river. Afternoons included a float on the water and appetizers with a glass or two of wine on the deck. After a delicious BBQ dinner, the hot tub was the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of nothing. It was the perfect summer vacation.
Andrew, my fiance at the time (now husband) and our friends joined us for a couple of days and as my aunt says, “the cottage was brought to life.” Fun and games filled the property, Washer Toss (travelling horse-shoes), fishing, acoustic guitar, stand-up paddleboarding, pedal boating, kayaking and swimming filled the days. The dock and waterfront were never empty.
Out & About
We ventured into Havelock several times, to grab groceries and check out the farm stand on hwy 7 to pick-up fresh corn on the cob for dinner. One evening, we drove about half an hour into Lakefield to go to The Old Bridge Inn restaurant and Young’s Point to sit on the patio and enjoy a delicious dinner. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the Kawartha area!
Overall, it was a great vacation and an ideal spot to visit at any time of year!
