Every year we sit in the dead of winter, waiting and hoping that spring will arrive. When spring finally arrives, we dream of summer. Warm days on the dock, catching fish, roasting marshmallows, barbequing, spending time in the fresh air, building sandcastles on the beach and enjoying a cold one with those who matter most. Ironically, the unofficial kick-off weekend to summer, Victoria Day, is still in spring! So, celebrate Victoria Day long weekend like a Canadian with our top 5 ways to kick-off summer!
Top 5 Ways to Kick-off Summer
1. Visit a Cottage
Cottage rentals all over Ontario open up for the Victoria Day weekend to start their summer season. So, make arrangements to visit a friend or family member with a cottage, or rent one yourself with your family.
2. Have a Barbeque
If the time or money isn’t in the cards to head to a cottage, don’t fret, host a BBQ! Invite neighbours, friends or family over for some delicious food! Good times are bound to be had by all!
3. Have a Campfire
If you’re able to have a campfire on your own property, this one is really easy, but check fire restrictions in your area as most residential areas don’t allow campfires. If you can’t have one at home, go somewhere you can! Maybe it’s someone else’s house or to visit family at their cottage. Either way, roasting marshmallows around a campfire is a sure-fire way to kick-off summer.
4. Watch a Firework Display
Municipalities all over Ontario host extravagant firework displays. Have you ever been to one? They usually last a while and are spectacular to watch. Please remember, fireworks aren’t permitted at any cottage rentals. As always with fireworks, please keep pets inside and children at a safe distance.
5. Make Memories
Whether you’re staying home with your family or going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, make memories! You’ll only ever be in this moment in time once, so make the most of it with those who are around you. Celebrate everything kicking-off summer means to you!
Whatever you do to celebrate the kick-off to summer, make memories!
