My family and I visited Blue Haven in late March 2022 – a very seasonably unpredictable time of year to be sure.
We left home shortly before 4pm and began our 2-hour drive to Gooderham. While weather reports were calling for snow and potentially freezing rain, we had smooth weather for the whole drive. I got a text from a family member that it was freezing rain at home, meanwhile, towards Haliburton, it was just an overcast day!
As we pulled onto the cottage’s roadway, a mother & baby deer greeted us on the road.
Arriving
Arriving at the cottage was exciting! Our dog, Mylah couldn’t wait to get out of the car and explore. Our son, Ryker, was excited that there was still enough snow on the ground to play in and my husband and I were ready to get unpacked and dinner in the oven.
After half an hour or so of unpacking, we made a quick bite to eat and toured the property.
Before long, we put our son to bed, in the 2nd level twin bedroom. He loved the coloured light band that gave off just enough light to be used as a night light. His favourite colour (at the moment) is red, so it stayed that colour for most of our visit.
Hot Tub
Before heading to bed, my husband and I poured a couple of drinks and jumped in the hot tub to unwind from a busy day. While the wind was cool, the hot tub was a lovely cap to end the evening.
The patio was well lit with the string lights as they glistened on the roof above. Although the sky was cloud covered, it felt like we were sitting under a clear twinkly sky!
Bedrooms
We all had a great night’s sleep at Blue Haven! The rooms upstairs both had ceiling fans that we used and the beds were quite comfy. The empty chest of drawers in the primary bedroom and closet meant we could really unpack and feel right at home. We used the shelving unit in the twin bedroom for our son’s clothing as it was easy for him to reach and kept his things organized.
Cooking
Although we didn’t plan to BBQ while we were at the cottage, we very easily could have! The BBQ is on the fully enclosed deck, right off the kitchen, making it ideal for dogs & kids to play while dining outside.
We made two big meals during our time at Blue Haven and my husband and I agree, the kitchen amenities aren’t lacking in the slightest!
Pots, pans, dishes, glasses, measuring cups, coffee, tea, everything was so organized and easy to find!
Internet & Chromecast
Due to the cool weather, we spent the afternoon eating popcorn and watching movies on Netflix & Disney+!
Having unlimited wifi available with the Chromecast while we lounged on the comfortable sectional in the lower level meant we could snuggle up under the throws and enjoy some quiet family time.
I used my personal cell phone to stream the movies and it felt just like it would at home. This also makes me believe working from the cottage, Zoom meetings, VoIP phone calls & uploading/downloading documents, wouldn’t be a problem. Having the view of Trooper Lake to look at while working from any of the indoor or outdoor areas would be pretty great too!
