The village of Magnetawan sits on the Magnetawan River and boasts over 40 miles of boating in a stunning area of waterways, forests and winding roads. Historic locks separate beautiful Lake Cecebe and Ahmic Lake where you’ll find spectacular views across sparkling water.
History of Magnetawan
In the 1800s families would come by train to Burks Falls and then board a steamboat on the river which would take them to their Magnetawan summer homes. The first road into the area was the Nippising road which is now part of the TransCanada Trail that runs through the center of Magnetawan. Many families have owned property in the area for over 5 generations.
The Store
Aileen Ireland and her husband retired to Magnetawan in 2006 and she started working part-time at a local convenience store. Seeing a real need for fresh produce, and with connections in the Holland Marsh area, she started bringing up produce every Friday which would then sell out.
Eventually, they bought a trailer and sold produce, then as demand increased, added meat, milk, seafood etc. Within a few years a building came available and after renovations it was opened in the spring of 2019.
With more space, the range of products grew to include home decor and cottage wear and the store now stocks whatever cottagers might want including gourmet food, gift baskets, pet food, fresh baked goods, ready made meals lake-branded hoodies, footwear, rainwear, cozy sweaters, kitchenware and more.
And now you can buy those gourmet foods that were never before available in cottage country!
