Escape the city and discover a truly special retreat at just a little over an hour from the Don Valley/401 interchange. Quite frankly we were surprised to find such a delightful pair of cottages this close to the GTA, just northeast of Beaverton, and Lake Simcoe. Nestled on the opening of Canal Lake, across from an uninhabited island, the two side-by-side, newly renovated cottages—Pineview and Birchview—offer the perfect blend of comfort, privacy, and natural beauty. Talbot-by-the-Lake cottages are a perfect choice for an extended family or group of friends that want a pair of cottages side by side for the perfect balance of togetherness and personal space.
The cottages are twins, with each having its own set of facilities - a full kitchen, dining area, living room and 2 bedrooms. Birchview sleeps 4 and Pineview sleeps 5. Freshly renovated, each have their own unique décor, cathedral ceilings with rustic beams, all-season climate control, and smart TVs. The cottages can be enjoyed year round, each with a propane gas fireplace and a firepit to enhance all seasons.
Each cottage has its own dock, from which you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, yoga on the dock, fishing, or relaxing and watching the wildlife (the loons are making daily appearances this year). While there will be occasional boats passing by, the island that dominates the view also shields you from the traffic of the Trent-Severn Waterway - which by the way, is also accessible to you should you wish to bring a boat. Boats can be rented or launched from Sunset Cove Marina, only a 3-minute drive. Swimming from the docks is quite good - the gentle current of the river prevents any excessive weed build up. You may occasionally see some weed carried into the bay from Canal Lake, but these are easily dealt with.
This is a great area to explore. Within a 10-minute walk, you will find a swing bridge, golf course with dining, local LCBO, food market (grab some famous Kawartha Dairy ice cream!), baseball diamond, basketball court, and a playground. In less than 15 minutes drive, you can go horseback riding, rent a boat (to moor on the cottage docks), visit the famous Kirkfield liftlocks, go birding in the Carden Plain, and explore Beaverton. In about a 30 minute drive, you can visit Lindsay, Orillia, and Fenelon Falls, each offering a charming day trip destination.
This pair of cottages emphatically states "relax", and it’s a perfect place for a pair of small families or groups of friends.

Things you need to know:
- The 2 cottages can be rented separately in low season only.
- One well-behaved dog up to 75lbs per cottage is permitted, but no cats please.
- Please note that, according to the municipality’s bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free.
- This cottage is in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The Municipal STR Licence restricts the cottage to maximum 9 people at any given time during your stay. The Municipality requires rental guests sign a Rental Guest Code of Conduct. It will be sent to you upon booking for electronic signature.
- **Please note Kawartha Lakes, implements a month long burn ban every April - campfires are not permitted in April**
- Linens and indoor towels are provided for all rentals; please bring your own outdoor towels
- Rentals include a cleaning service; however, the departure checklist must be completed
- The cottages' waterfront has a north easterly exposure
- While there is no limit on download activity for this cottage, experience has shown that smooth streaming and/or video-conferencing may not be reliably depended upon.
- The cottages have smart TVs that will allow you to sign into any of the streaming services you personally subscribe to. Please note, these services will require your personal login information and are not provided
