There are some terms that get overused and to be honest we think that "hidden gem" might be one of those terms when it comes to real estate and cottage rentals - but then again, sometimes it's exactly the right phrase to use. The Talbot River lazily flows between Canal Lake at Bolsover Ontario, just northeast of Beaverton, and Lake Simcoe. Quite frankly we were surprised to find such a delightful pair of cottages this close to the GTA and just down the road from Western Trent Golf & Country Club & the Swing Bridge! At just a little over an hour from the Don Valley/401 interchange, Talbot-by-the-Lake cottages are a perfect choice for an extended family that wants a pair of cottages side by side - perfect for sharing a cottage vacation but allowing each to have some space of their own.
The cottages are titled Birchview and Pineview. Each has their own set of facilities - kitchen, dining area, living room and 2 bedrooms. Birchview sleeps 4 and Pineview sleeps 5. Each have their own fire pit and dock. Both have smart TV's, gas fireplaces, and Wifi, and both are air-conditioned.
There are two docks. While there will be occasional boats passing by, the island in that dominates the view also shields you from the traffic of the Trent-Severn Waterway - which by the way, is also accessible to you should you wish to bring a boat. Swimming from the docks is quite good - the gentle current of the river prevents any excessive weed build up. You may occasionally see some weed carried into the bay from nearby Canal Lake, but these are easily dealt with.
The local store just down the road has what you need for groceries and the basics. Also just on the other side of that island is the Western Trent Golf Club - a nice little 9-hole track for you to enjoy during your stay. Beaverton, Fenelon Falls and Orillia are all within a half hour's drive, each offering something unique to cottage country visitors.
We think this pair of cottages emphatically states "relax", and it’s a perfect place for a pair of small families.

Things you need to know:
- The 2 cottages can be rented separately in low season only.
- One well-behaved dog up to 75lbs per cottage is permitted, but no cats please.
- Please note that, according to the municipality’s bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free.
- This cottage is in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The Municipal STR Licence restricts the cottage to maximum 9 people at any given time during your stay. The Municipality requires rental guests sign a Rental Guest Code of Conduct. It will be sent to you upon booking for electronic signature.
- Linens and indoor towels are provided for all rentals; please bring your own outdoor towels
- Rentals include a cleaning service; however, the departure checklist must be completed
- The cottages' waterfront has a north easterly exposure
- While there is no limit on download activity for this cottage, experience has shown that smooth streaming and/or video-conferencing may not be reliably depended upon.
- The cottages have smart TVs that will allow you to sign into any of the streaming services you personally subscribe to. Please note, these services will require your personal login information and are not provided
