Overview ↑↓
One of the most sought after items when people are looking for cottage rentals is the classic favorite - the sunset. As noted in the name of this property, it is a feature enjoyed by owners and guests alike. The sun setting over the islands or the water, depending on the time of year, produce a spectacle that can be different every night. A perfect way to cap off your day.
Of course, you don't want to spend your whole day doing nothing but waiting for a sunset, and there are plenty of things to do while waiting. Is there a pianist in your group? If so, they will may be delighted to share their talent with you on the baby grand in the cathedral ceilinged living room. (Please note that this instrument is not a toy, and not intended as such at any time). The living room is light and airy, and if tickling the ivories isn't tickling your fancy, perhaps a movie or a game is on store. There is satellite TV in the living room and the boathouse bunkie, and a pub-style video arcade game (50 classic games!) on the lower level can help you relive those hours of mis-spent youth - without the cost of a quarter every time!
There are 2 bedrooms on the upper level, including a large master with a view over the bay, as well as a 3-piece bathroom with shower. The main level hosts the aforementioned living room, a 3-piece bath with clawfoot tub and the well-appointed kitchen and dining area. The lower level has a family room seating area, a games area and a fourth bedroom.
Step outside and you'll get what you came for. The deck offers a Gloucester Pool panorama that will provide the perfect background for a selfie - or maybe you just want to put the phone away and savor the moment. You can enjoy the view as you walk down a few flights of stairs, perhaps stopping to reflect on different angles as you stop at the decks along the way or sitting by the fire pit. Once down at the bottom, you'll find yourself at the dock and boathouse area. The upper level of the boathouse has been converted to a bunkie, sleeping 4, that might be the prize claim of those in your group wanting a little privacy or a true waterfront experience. The waterfront is yours to play with - swim, boat or just cast a line in the water. Don't be surprised if you hook a big one - Gloucester Pool is known for good fishing.
You'll love it here in the winter as well. Of course, the snow makes it a classic Winter Wonderland, you may be able to skate on the lake if conditions are right, and cross-country skiing is good whenever there is snow. The Ontario Snowmobile Trail network is accessible near by and the slopes of Horseshoe Valley, Snow Valley and Mount Saint Louis Moonstone are just a short drive away.
If you feel like an excursion, the towns of Port Severn and Severn Falls are reachable by boat or by car (Coldwater by car). Port Severn and area has a wide variety of restaurants from pubs to fine dining, a service center with fast food, a public beach and a host of marinas. A little further afield you will find that the town of Coldwater has what you need for groceries and perhaps a little shopping. Orillia and Midland are very reachable if you are looking for a little Canadiana history.
Well, that was the day that was - time to enjoy that sunset, perhaps followed by a campfire, a few stories, some toasted marshmallows and a planning session for tomorrow!
