While we're glad to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the large deck, and time spent with loved ones, we’re sorry to learn that other aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations. We’d like to address a few points raised: Regarding the pricing confusion, we understand how frustrating that must have been. Your booking was made through VRBO, a third-party platform that unfortunately does not follow the same TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) guidelines as agencies like ours. VRBO often displays nightly rates that do not include additional fees or cleaning charges until the final booking stage. As a property manager on their platform, we don’t have control over how these totals are presented. It's important for guests to review the full booking breakdown before confirming payment—we truly sympathize and wish the process were more transparent. The lakefront is natural and, like many in Ontario, subject to seasonal weed growth. This year’s hotter-than-usual weather has caused increased growth, and unfortunately, the Ministry of Natural Resources does not permit weed removal. That said, we do note the condition of the shoreline in the listing so guests can make an informed decision. As for the fridge, we’re very sorry to hear it wasn’t functioning properly during your stay. This is the first report we've received about an issue with it, and we would have happily addressed it during your visit had we been informed. We’ll be following up with the owner right away to ensure it’s checked. The listing doesn’t advertise central air conditioning, but portable AC units are provided in the bedrooms as a comfort bonus. The cozy size of the living space is also accurately reflected in both the listing photos and the property’s name: Scugog’s Cozy Cottage. With respect to the “open toilet vent,” this has caused some confusion on our end. There is a sealed and inactive vent in the living room from a prior renovation, but nothing currently in use or open. Lastly, the cleaning fee covers the professional post-departure clean, which includes full laundering of linens and towels, cleaning of all rooms, and outdoor tidying. Guests are simply asked to complete a light pre-departure checklist, including removing food from the fridge and taking out garbage. Unfortunately, as local waste disposal policies vary, we are unable to cover municipal dump fees and the requirement for garbage removal is clearly noted on the listing. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to help improve the experience for future guests. Thank you again for staying with us.
