Overview ↑↓
There are a lot of things that people look for in a cottage, but a few items are most often requested, including privacy, spaciousness, a great waterfront, a seminal cottage experience and as many conveniences and comforts as possible. Sanctuary Point scores well in all of these and more!
The cottage is located on a point on Gloucester Pool, a 13-kilometre, island speckled lake that is a part of the Trent Severn Waterway. The waters are great for swimming and boating, and access to the waterway gives you the opportunity to boat pretty well anywhere. The point gives you 1600 feet of shoreline, with a waterfront that varies. While there is no formal beach area, there is a shallow, sandy entry for toddlers and non-swimmers. Other parts of the shoreline include peaceful rock ledges and treed areas.
The cottage itself is a wonderful piece of architecture, designed to harmonize with its surroundings, affording every room a unique perspective on the property, with most areas having their own waterfront views. We've visited some Frank Lloyd Wright homes and would not be surprised if this cottage was influenced by that school. 5 "pods" are joined together in a hexagon shape to provide a series of private bedroom and bathroom combinations, with the largest pod holding the common kitchen living and dining areas. There is plenty of space here to enjoy time together as a group or to enjoy some private, quiet space of your own. The six bedrooms are all fitted with windows that offer full or partial views of the lake and with four and a half bathrooms, there is absolutely no crowding. The pods surround a central hexagon-shaped outdoor courtyard, a great place to relax if you want complete shelter from the wind. If you'd like a bit of a breeze, there is also a screened porch area.
Outside the cottage, you have lots of space to enjoy. You may wish to relax and enjoy the view at a number of vantage points, go for a walk among the trees or enjoy the cooling waters of Gloucester Pool. If you have a boat, bring it along! There is a large covered boat slip to house good size craft, and you are just 1 lock away from Georgian Bay. Boating and fishing are wonderful here. There is lots of seating space on the deck areas as well, and although the kitchen is large and well-equipped, you'll want to barbeque a few meals out on the deck.
Sanctuary Point is just 150 km from the 400/401 intersection in Toronto, so if you are coming from outside Ontario, it is convenient for exploring Canada's largest city. Of course, if you are coming FROM Toronto, it is also far enough away to provide the cottage country experience. The local area also offers many possibilities. There are golf courses and ski hills a short drive away, and historic Midland-Penetanguishene is just 35 km distant. Cyclists will also enjoy some quiet roads in a peaceful setting. The nearby town of Coldwater offers most of what you would need in terms of shopping and restaurants, but the larger centre of Barrie is just 50 km to the south should you feel the need for something more urban.
CLRM is delighted to have this cottage available, and we know our clients will love this unique property.
