Tucked deep in the Algonquin Highlands, Light Cottage is a beautiful lakeside retreat overlooking Kawagama Lake. After a winding drive through primarily natural trails, you’ll arrive at this private, tree-lined property, where the peaceful surroundings and stunning lake views immediately set the tone for a relaxing cottage getaway.
Stepping inside, gorgeous floor-to-ceiling Viceroy windows fill the cottage with natural light and bring the beauty of the outdoors right into the bright, welcoming family room and kitchen. With five bedrooms and plenty of space to spread out, Light Cottage is ideally suited for families and multigenerational groups looking to spend quality time together.
The fully equipped kitchen makes preparing meals easy, while the dining area provides room to gather for meals. When the weather is warm, take your meals outside to the deck, where you can enjoy dinner overlooking the water.
There are plenty of places to gather and spend time together, including a screened-in Muskoka room that is perfect for game nights, morning coffee or relaxing with a good book. The cottage offers a mix of sleeping accommodations, including bunk beds, with bedrooms located on both the main floor and lower level.
Outside, the fun continues. Kids will love the trampoline, playground and outdoor equipment, while the whole family can gather around the fire pit at the end of the day. Steps lead down to an extensive dock where you can spend hours swimming, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Kawagama Lake setting. Please keep in mind, while there are multiple landings as you make your way to the water, guests with accessibility concerns may find the stairs to be challenging.
With lots of watercraft available for guests to enjoy and an extended dock for those bringing their own boat, getting out on the water is easy. The lake offers wide-open views and deep, inviting swimming, making it a wonderful place to spend long summer days.

Things you need to know:
- Dogs or cats are welcome, but no other pets please
- Please note that, according to the municipality’s bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free.
- Watercraft are available seasonally when conditions allow (typically Victoria Day to Thanksgiving, depending on water levels, safety, and weather); refunds will not be provided if conditions prevent use.
- Given the location and various changes in grade, 4 wheel drive is recommended for access
- Linens are provided – please bring your own outdoor towels
- Garbage and recycling disposal is required
- Please complete the pre-departure checklist and check out on time to avoid additional charges, as cleaning begins immediately after your departure.
- The cottage TVs have no outlets available for guest devices
- Electric vehicles: Not suitable

Waterfront
The cottage has 151 feet of private waterfront, with southeastern exposure for plenty of sun throughout the day. Waterfront access is directly from the dock into deep water, approximately 6.5 feet deep at the end of the dock, with no shallow entry. The shoreline has few to no weeds, and the lake is well suited to fishing.Boating
The cottage’s dock can accommodate 3-4 boats, from June to the Thanksgiving weekend (water levels permitting). The nearest marina is the Mountain Trout House.Close-By Attractions
- Dorset Lookout Tower. Visitors are welcome to climb to the observation deck, which is 142 metres (465 feet) above Lake of Bays, and enjoy the view from the tree-top lookout as well as ground level lookouts.(30 mins)
- Algonquin Highlands Forest Management Trails. There are 9.5 km of looped trails. The Fire Tower and Lakeshore trails are good for beginners, and more experienced hikers/snowshoers will enjoy the remaining three trails. The Vista trail provides an excellent view of Lake St. Nora and the Algonquin Highlands Landscape. (35 mins)
- Robinson’s General Store.This famous general store is a "must-see" for anyone visiting the Muskoka or Haliburton area. The store has been in operation since 1921, and now sprawls over 14,000 sq.ft. of retail space. (25 mins)
- Algonquin Provincial Park.Algonquin Provincial Park has 7,635 square kilometres of forests, bogs, lakes and rivers. There are many hiking trails, a Discovery Program, Visitor's Centre, Logging Museum and Art Centre at the Park. (50 mins)
- S.S. Bigwind Cruises. Boat company offering scenic cruises on Lake of Bays. (25 mins)
