The waterways of Gloucester Pool and Go Home Bay are one of the crown jewels of Ontario's Muskoka cottage district, and cottage rentals in Ontario. Renowned for swimming, fishing and boating, the area is popular with cottagers seeking any of the traditional area activities. You'll want something that offers something for everyone, and we think this may be it. Lazy Bear is prepared to help you enjoy any and all of these - and more! Lazy Bear consists of two cottages, one sitting right on the water, the other up above on the slope.
Lazy Bear is easily accessed from Highway 400, just a little over an hour from the top of the GTA. The upper cottage sleeps 6 comfortably, with sleeping areas on each of the 3 levels. The upper level consists of the prime bedroom with ensuite, a living room, kitchen and dining area. A sunroom with a walkout to a deck and gazebo round out this level. A second bedroom is located down a half-staircase. The third bed is on the lower level and comes complete with a seating area and a TV. The lower cottage is set on a gentle slope that recedes to the water from the driveway, giving you privacy and quiet. A side entrance brings you inside the cottage. Immediately you will notice the panoramic view afforded by the windows that run the length of the cottage and overlook the deck and waterfront. From here the cottage is pretty much open concept. The 3 bedrooms are located on the outer edges of the cottage, 2 at one end and one at the other, leaving the kitchen, dining area, living area and 3-piece bathroom more central. A walkout takes you to a large multi tiered deck and patio area that should serve all your waterfront needs - sunning, relaxing in the shade, swimming, enjoying a drink, BBQing - pretty well anything that comes to mind when you think "cottage vacation on the water". Sitting on the elevated deck under the gazebo is wonderful at any time of day or evening. At the end of the day after the kids have gone to sleep, you might find yourself here - quietly reflecting on the days events or enjoying a moonrise over the water.
The waterfront offers something for all - there is a sandy wade-in entry for toddlers and non swimmers just to the left of the dock, while deeper water swimming is available at the end of the dock. Although there is some weed to the right side of the dock, the swimming is generally good - and a nice selection of human-powered craft lets you explore the bay.
Oh, while we are walking around the deck, we would be remiss if we ignored the bunkie. A cute and cosy spot that is perfect for a couple or an individual wanting a little "me" time. It is tucked away by the trees at the edge of the property and has its own deck for sitting our and relaxing. The owner confided to us that this is her favorite spot - you might find yourself in agreement.
If you are looking to venture out for a while, there are a lot of potential destinations. The basics, a few restaurants, ice cream and some fast food can be had in nearby Port Severn. If you are bringing your own motorized boat you would likely put in here as well. Grocery runs can be to Honey Harbour (about 12 km) or Coldwater (a little over 20 km but most of that on Highway 400). We recommend a trip to Big Chute to see the Marine Rail (the only remaining one in Ontario) in operation. Historic Midland/Penetanguishene is also just 30 minutes away as is the iconic Muskoka town of Bala.
Regardless of whether you are Mama Bear, Papa Bear or Baby Bear, we think a week at Lazy Bear will be the "just right" rest.
