Step back in time with modern comfort at Lake Muskoka Timber Retreat, an 80 year old log cottage on the tranquil shores of Bala Bay on Lake Muskoka. This charming two-bedroom retreat offers the best of both worlds: access to the expansive waters of Lake Muskoka while enjoying a peaceful location away from heavy boat traffic. The cottage's history is palpable in its classic log construction, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance.
Inside, the spacious kitchen provides a hub for meal preparation and casual gatherings, with a breakfast and seating area perfect for starting your day. The great room is the heart of the cottage, featuring comfortable seating, entertainment options, and a wood stove that brings a cozy atmosphere on cooler nights. Large windows frame beautiful lake views, making the dining table an inviting spot for memorable meals. The true highlight, however, is the Muskoka room. With windows on three sides, this serene space is ideal for reading, relaxing, or savoring a morning coffee while surrounded by the natural beauty of Bala Bay.
Outside, the charm continues. Stone steps lead you down to a private dock, where clear, generally weed-free waters invite refreshing swims or leisurely afternoons soaking up the sun. The dock also serves as the perfect launching point for a canoe or kayak, offering an intimate way to explore the bay and beyond. Whether you're paddling along the shoreline or simply enjoying the peaceful environment, this cottage is an excellent base for your Muskoka adventures.
The surrounding area offers a wealth of activities to enhance your stay. It’s a 10 minute walk to Sunset Beach, which has a playground as well, and just a 20 minute walk to the nearest pub, brewery, stores, and coffee shops. Bala is 5 minutes away by boat or car. Nearby Bala, known as the Cranberry Capital of Canada, offers delightful shops, restaurants, and seasonal events, including the popular Bala Cranberry Festival. Gravenhurst is home to the iconic Muskoka Steamships, where you can enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Muskoka, and a vibrant farmer’s market. For stargazing enthusiasts, the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve is a must-visit destination, offering unobstructed views of the night sky in a tranquil natural setting. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, this area has something for everyone.
