We are always happy to see new properties on the Lake Erie shoreline, so we were doubly pleased when we first saw this adorable cottage between Sherkston Shores and Port Colborne. When you stand on the deck and look out, the trees frame the lake and beach in a beautiful way that gives rise to the name of this property.
The Doorway to Summer is a classic Lake Erie beach home, cute, clean, cozy and convenient to all the fun that the Niagara Peninsula has to offer. At about 10 km from Port Colborne, you are far enough from the crowds to enjoy the peace and relaxation of typical cottage life, but well situated to enjoy dozens, if not hundreds of possibilities within an hour's drive.
The cottage features 3 bedrooms which sleep a family of 4 comfortably, along with a spacious 3-piece bathroom. The kitchen is typical of many a cottage - not huge but certainly well-equipped and functional to feed those who work up an appetite in the waves. A living dining area is the main feature here, with a focus on the sliding doors leading to the deck, yard and beach. A TV (not satellite) is provided along with a DVD player. You will also pick up more TV stations from the antenna as Buffalo and Toronto are within range. WiFI and Netflix, however, will give you lots of options for viewing.
The outside deck is a great place to enjoy the coolness provided by a canopy of trees. Down by the lakefront, a small patio overlooks the lake and beach - a place where those looking for true relaxation may wish to while away some hours with a beverage and a book, or simply let yourself slip away into the view. From here you can keep track of the kids running up and down the beach or playing in the water.
Cyclists and hikers will love it here. The Friendship Trail has an entry point just a kilometre or so from the cottage, and it will take you to Fort Erie or Port Colborne. Bring your passport and cycle across the Peace Bridge, or if you are a dedicated road cyclist, continue up the Niagara Parkway to the Falls.
This is an area brimming with things to do. Historic canals, beaches, the famous Falls and all of its associated attractions, fabulous Lake Erie boating and fishing, the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the Lake and of course, wine country...think you can do it all in a week?
