Welcome to "Captain's Landing," a charming 3-bedroom cottage nestled on the shores of Lake Vernon in Huntsville, Ontario. This idyllic retreat offers comfortable accommodations for up to 6 guests, making it perfect for families or small groups seeking a peaceful lakeside getaway.
The upper level of the cottage houses all three bedrooms, providing cozy sleeping quarters for a restful night's sleep. A convenient 3-piece athroom ensures convenience for all guests.
On the main level, you'll find the heart of the home, featuring an open-concept layout with the kitchen, living, and dining areas seamlessly blending together. Relax in the spacious living room, complete with a large TV for movie nights or catching up on your favorite shows.
A pair of half flights of stairs leads to the 2 lower levels, where you'll discover additional amenities including a laundry room and another 3-piece bathroom for added convenience. The highlight of this level is the expansive family room, offering ample seating, a cozy hot stove for chilly evenings, and entertainment options such as a piano and foosball table, ensuring hours of fun for all ages.
Outside, the waterfront of "Captain's Landing" is perfect for kids, with sandy shores that extend into the water. While the lake may become weedy from about 10 to 20 feet offshore, the weeds generally clear as you venture further out. Please note that water clarity in the bay may vary, especially during hot and humid weather.
As for things to do in the area, Huntsville offers a plethora of attractions and activities to suit every interest. Explore the charming downtown area with its boutiques, galleries, and restaurants, or take a leisurely stroll along the scenic waterfront. Outdoor enthusiasts will delight in the abundance of hiking trails, golf courses, and water sports available in the surrounding area. - Firepit (firewood is not provided)
- Linens and towels are provided, but please bring your own outdoor towels
- Rentals include a cleaning service; however, the cottage must be left in a tidy condition
- This cottage faces northeast. There are no direct sunrise or sunset views, but roughly 8 hours full sun
- This cottage has a valid STR license with The Town of Huntsville; Licence # STRA-2024-136, which allows for no more than 6 guests to be on the property at any given time during your stay.
Waterfront
The cottage waterfront has no sand beach, but it's possible to wade in shallow water from the shoreline. The bottom is silty close to the shoreline, and muddy further down, about 4 feet deep from one side (close to the shoreline) of dock to 8 feet deep on the another side. There are some weeds but it’s generally good for swimming.Close-By Attractions
- Hutcheson Beach.Located on the shores of Lake Vernon this beach boasts over 100 meters of shoreline. Wonderful family friendly park featuring a children's playground and public boat launch. (20 mins)
- Arrowhead Provincial Park. 15 km of hiking trails; including a trail leading to a waterfall (Stubb's Falls), rental canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and mountain bikes. (20 mins)
- Santa's Village. It's always Christmas in Bracebridge! Kids will be delighted by this park, full of rides and attractions, and be able to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus too. 60 acres of family fun. (45 mins)
- High Falls Bay Waterpark. High Falls Waterpark is a unique eco-conscious beachfront waterpark in the heart of Muskoka. 1500 ft of sandy beaches on a beautiful private lake and looking directly at three sets of waterfalls, including the magnificent High Falls waterfalls. You can relax on the beach to the sound of the falls, take a boat ride, or enjoy some of the many amenities and services. (30 mins)
- Golfing. There are several courses within 30 minutes from the cottage, including Grandview Golf Club, Huntsville Downs Golf Course, North Granite Ridge Golf Club, and Deerhurst Lakeside Golf Course.
- Muskoka Heritage Place. Muskoka Heritage Place takes you back in time to the 1800's. There is plenty of fun for everyone of all-ages at Muskoka Heritage Place, with a variety of activities that are entertaining, educational, and family-friendly. Ride the steam train, visit the steam museum, meet farm animals, take a school lesson in the 1800's style! (20 mins)
