St. Lawrence River
The St. Lawrence River is one of North America’s great waterways, flowing from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean and forming part of the border between Canada and the United States. Long used as a major transportation route and now a key part of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the river is equally valued today for its natural beauty, rich ecosystems, and recreational opportunities.
One of its most iconic sections is the Thousand Islands, stretching between Kingston and Brockville. Despite the name, the region includes over 1,800 islands, from tiny rocky outcrops to larger islands with cottages and historic estates. The clear, deep waters and rugged granite landscapes make it a favourite for boating, kayaking, and sightseeing, while landmarks like Boldt Castle add a layer of history and charm to this uniquely scenic part of Ontario’s cottage country.
