Belmont Lake, Kawartha
Located in Peterborough County, Kawartha near the community of Havelock, Belmont Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in Central Ontario that forms part of the Trent-Severn watershed. The lake stretches roughly 7.5 km long and over 3 km wide, with depths reaching about 50 feet, and is known for its rugged Canadian Shield shoreline, rocky islands (around 50 in total), and classic cottage-country feel. Its waters are fed primarily by the Crowe River and North River, and the Crowe River also flows out of the lake—connecting Belmont to nearby lakes like Cordova Lake upstream and Crowe Lake downstream, making it part of a broader interconnected system of waterways.
For anglers, Belmont Lake offers a diverse and productive fishery typical of the Kawartha region. Popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye (pickerel), northern pike, yellow perch, crappie, and sunfish, with muskie also present though less abundant than in the past. The lake’s mix of structure—weed beds, rocky shoals, drop-offs, and islands—creates excellent habitat for both recreational and more serious fishing. Whether you’re casting along the shoreline, exploring the river inlets, or fishing deeper water, Belmont is considered a well-rounded lake for a variety of techniques and experience levels.
