As we spend more and more time on our electronics – be it laptops, phones, tablets or video games — it has become clear to many families that unplugging for your holidays to bring back traditional cottage vacations with family is maybe just what we need in this never slowing, fast pace world.
With more employers offering work from home opportunities, electronic devices are relied upon even more than before. Our kids are seeing this and think they need to be on devices just as much. Before we knew it, we turned into a society completely reliant on technology. So, this summer, when you plan your family vacation, create a goal: unplug for your holidays.
There’s no denying electronics play a major role in our day-to-day lives. So, when you plan your cottage vacation this summer, aim to go device-free! Spend time swimming, playing games, pick up sports such as soccer & road hockey, cooking as a family and the favourite, making memories around a campfire.
I have found unplugging for holidays easier to do at the cottage than anywhere else! Why? Because so much of cottage country is still on limited internet packages. Keeping the cottage internet available for checking into work and only using my device’s limited data plan has helped me unplug for my holidays!
