About This Cottage
One of the most sought-after lakes in the Parry Sound region is Lake Manitouwabing. With a variety of coves and bays, luxurious resorts, crystal waters and wonderful boating, it captures the hearts of families and sportsmen alike - and just about right in the middle of this paradise is where you will find Tranquility.
We couldn't resist the opportunity for that little play on words. Tranquility is a wonderful family cottage with southern exposure. Suited to larger and extended families, this cottage has something for everyone in your group. Mom and Dad will appreciate the cleanliness and thoughtful attention to detail that the owners have worked hard to ensure. Children will enjoy the swimming and water sports. A waterside bunkie is there for those looking for some retreat time in a serene hideaway.
The cottage has 3 nicely outfitted bedrooms that will comfortably sleep 8 people. There are 2 bathrooms, including a 3-piece ensuite off the main bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher. A wonderful dining area is on the other side of a pass-through window, allowing great water views from both kitchen and dining areas. A woodstove will heat up the living room on cool evenings, while a screened sunroom offers a wonderful place to spend a hot summer afternoon. The living room houses an entertainment center that includes satellite TV, DVD/CD player and a Game Cube. You will be happy to know that there is also a washer/dryer in the cottage, which makes it a great place for multiple week bookings. The bunkie sleeps an additional 2 people.
The grounds are pure cottage country! A waterfront dock is the base for boating and swimming and the hammock will no doubt have a waiting list during your stay. There is a waterfront fire pit for marshmallows and tall tales in the evening, and another outdoor sitting area lets people take in some shade on the other side of the cottage. The water is clear, with an entry on flat rock that deepens fairly quickly. There is a shallow area to wade into the water, however swimmers will probably prefer to jump from the dock.
Manitouwabing Lake is close to the small town of McKellar, which offers the basic amenities. Parry Sound is just 20 km away and has everything you need in terms of restaurants, shopping etc.
This is a wonderfully private cottage, but the owners have another cottage nearby and someone will likely be close should you encounter anything that needs attention.

The waterfront is clear and generally weed free. While the water deepens quite quickly, there is a flat rock area that allows people to wade in gradually. The water at the end of the dock is deep and suited to swimming and diving. Before jumping or diving into ANY lake, groups should take care to ensure logs or other items have not floated into the area such that they would present a hazard.
Manitouwabing Lake got its name from the Ojibway Indian family group who formerly frequented the area. The lake was first dammed at Hurdville a century ago for lumbering purposes. The present dam is maintained by the Public Utilities Commission of the town of Parry Sound, which uses the water for hydro electric power generation at an installation further down the Seguin River. In the early settlement days the lake provided transportation for lumber companies and the many homesteads which were cleared in the surrounding fertile clay soil. The power of falling water was harnessed at both the upper and lower ends of Manitouwabing Lake to run grist, woolen sawmills. (Source - Manitouwabing Lake Community Association)
