About This Cottage

For generations, people seeking relief from the hustle and bustle of the Toronto area have chose Lake Simcoe as their destination. The quaint towns and rows of lake houses and cottages that surround the lake are much loved and storied. Those of you who have read Leacock's Sunshine Sketches of a Little town know exactly what we mean. A lot of those older lake houses are gone, but some remain, retaining their charm and beckoning to a new generation. The little town of Beaverton recedes to the lake where you will find quiet streets of cottages like this, and eventually come to Sunset Shores.

Sitting quietly beneath stately maples, Sunset shores enjoys western exposure, beautiful lake panoramas, fine swimming and comfortable surroundings. The owners have retained the charisma of yesterday and added just enough of the present to make for a wonderful week away.

Entering the cottage, you will find an airy dining space and kitchen. Moving further into the main floor you'll find the main gathering spot - a living room with lots of seating, satellite TV, and a fireplace, just in case those late summer evenings turn cool. The 4-piece bath is on this level, as is a bedroom with lake view. Upstairs, you'll find 3 more well appointed and bright bedrooms - if you're the lead guest, you may want to claim the lakeside bedroom on this level.

Outside the cottage you'll find a delightful throwback - a covered veranda overlooking the yard and lake. For some reason, we think iced tea or lemonade would be a good choice here.

The waterfront has a few options - you may want to sit atop the boathouse on the deck there, enjoying the panoramic lake vista. The firepit and sitting area also offers a great view. A short staircase takes you down to the beach level. There is a sandy spot here for children to play (although if water levels are very high it may be reduced). There is a long dock - a great place to catch a sunset, go for a swim - whatever your nautical whim. Of course, you may instead opt to simply stay on the yards upper level and enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot tub - a welcome addition that the ancestors probably did not enjoy in cottage country!

Beaverton is a small lakeside village with shopping, restaurants, a marina and a newly built supermarket on Hwy 12.  With three golf courses in the vicinity and Casino Rama and the city of Orillia just twenty minutes to the north, there is plenty of additional entertainment and places to visit…..if you can tear yourself away from Sunset Shores.
