About This Cottage
There is something magical about the St Lawrence Seaway. Whether it’s moonlight on a still night, a rainbow across the water signaling the end of a stormy day, or a vast ship slowly inching its way towards the great lakes, it is a different panorama every day. And Seaway Chalet is your lookout.
This stunning property with its prow front and expansive lawns faces out onto the water so you are never any more than a few steps away from a view. Your vantage point could be the upper deck under the gazebo for some shade, from a patio table as you eat breakfast, from around the campfire on a starry night or sitting on the end of the dock, feet dangling in the water, with a fishing rod in hand. If this convinces you it’s a superb location, just head inside…………
We’ll start on the lower level as this is probably the entrance way you’ll use the most. There is a large family room with wall mounted TV, comfortable seating and a games table, as well as one of the bedrooms (with a queen bed). For those wanting to keep up their fitness routine there is a treadmill, weights and a smaller TV/DVD in the gym area. Select one of the fitness DVDs and off you go.
Head upstairs to the great room and you’ll be immediately taken with the vast windows overlooking the water. The beautifully equipped kitchen overlooks the lawned rear gardens while the dining area offers more views. Sliding doors lead to the main deck that has everything for outdoor living – a gazebo with adjustable panels to manage your levels of shade; dining table for al fresco meals, a BBQ, and a gate to keep your furry friend from heading to the water on a whim.
There are two more bedrooms on the main level – the master has an ensuite and there is a further full bathroom. Stairs lead to the loft where you’ll find more couches – this makes a comfortable reading area or space for the kids to sleep.
All in all, we think this is a fabulous location and property. You will notice the road to the house leads to a further property so you may occasionally see a vehicle pass between the house and the water, but this is unlikely to impact your vacation. And did I mention there is a boat launch right there so if you have your own boat, it’s a breeze to launch it and park the trailer close-by?
And one other thing….do you fish? If so, you’ll be out on the water every day and maybe bringing your catch home for supper as the fishing is excellent. The owner will leave you some hints on where the best spots are.
Finally, the swimmers in your group will love it too. You can wade out from the shoreline and swim out to deeper water for some good refreshing exercise…or bring some floaters and just relax. You are on vacation!

During the War of 1812, British troops stationed at nearby Fort Wellington (Prescott) crossed the frozen St Lawrence and burned the American town of Ogdensburg in retaliation for an American raid further upriver. As a result, the American citizens of Ogdensburg, who were profiting by supplying the British Army with food and other necessities, drove out their own American military detachment after the raid so that they could continue doing business with the British Army in Prescott.
