About This Cottage

Sitting on the dock at River Garden Cottage and watching the boats gently motor or paddle past could be the most active you get during your time here. It just seems like a place for lazy summer days and nights around the campfire. Sit on the deck with a glass of wine and a book, feet up and relax. What could be better than that?

Inside, the neat cottage has two bedrooms and a bathroom to the rear, with the kitchen, dining and living area to the front. It's well-kept and comfortably furnished with a very well-equipped kitchen. This would make a small family or a couple or two very happy for a short break or a week.

The Crowe River flows into Crowe Lake and through the village of Marmora so is a great area to explore. There's a shallow area at the shoreline for wading, but the area is prone to some weed so you may want to paddle out to the sandbar for clear water swimming. There's a public beach in Marmora as well as tennis courts, a splash pad and playground for the children and a lovely park for a picnic. The local boat launch is a few minutes away if you bring your own boat.

If you bring a dog there are plenty of great walks around and an off-leash dog park near the Marmora Beach. Take a walk back into local history by exploring the Marmora Mine or venture a little further south with a road trip to Prince Edward County.

Staying closer to home, you don't need to travel far to see some motor history since every Thursday in high season Main St in Marmora is closed for Cruise Night when up to 120 classic cars convene. Then on Tuesdays, you can check out the music in the park. And.on Saturday there is a Farmer's Market. So, if you drag yourself off that deck or dock - there is plenty to do.

Trivia

At one time, Crowe River was used to transport logs down to sawmills at Marmora. The river powers several small hydroelectric generating stations. The limestone-step falls at Callaghans Rapids Conservation Area and Crowe Bridge Conservation Area are popular sites for springtime kayakers and summertime swimmers. The river is a tributary of the Trent River, which in turn flows into the Bay of Quinte, Lake Ontario. (Source - Wikipedia)
