About This Cottage

Take a superb location; a beautifully furnished cottage; a wealth of activities and attractions in the area, and an outstanding view, and you have the recipe for a vacation that is as relaxed or as active as you could want. We are delighted to offer this property and know it will be popular at any time of the year.

There are so many features that make Pier View Cottage a very desirable choice. Let’s start with the proximity to Ottawa (1 hour); Montreal (1.75 hours) and the Bridge to USA (10 minutes). This delivers so many options for exploring the St Lawrence area, as well as the opportunity to discover delightful towns and villages in the immediate vicinity. Perfect for cyclists, antique hunters, anglers, birding enthusiasts and those seeking a more relaxed vacation, the property is as ideal for a family group as it is for a group of mature couples taking a break from the city.

Pier View overlooks a beautiful part of the St Lawrence where you can watch the huge boats plying the Seaway in the near-distance. Sea birds abound, and the southerly aspect delivers sun on the dock all day. The lawned area leads down to the waterfront that has soft sand and a shallow walkout to the water – great for small kids. Older children will enjoy jumping and diving off the end of the lengthy dock, then swimming out to the ‘lighthouse’ – a large rock on an island off the shore. The swimming is great from the shoreline, however, Pierview does not have its own sandy beach. The beach pictured is Iroquois Beach near Morrisburg, about 5kms from the cottage.

If lazing about is more your idea of an activity, the decks offer plenty of seating for lying back and reading a book, or enjoying an al fresco meal in the shade of the patio umbrella. We could imagine evenings spent on the deck under the stars watching the twinkling lights of ships passing by in the night

While most of the summer is likely to be spent outside, the interior of the cottage is equally as inviting and attractive for times spent indoors. The open-plan kitchen and breakfast bar, dining and living area offer a pleasantly furnished space for cooking, eating and movie watching. A gas-log fireplace makes a focal point for cooler evenings while the large screen TV and DVD collection ensures a variety of entertainment. The kitchen is very well-equipped with a variety of small appliances and cooking equipment.

Two comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom are off a hallway leading from the living area. On the upper floor the large master bedroom is beautifully decorated and furnished with an ensuite bathroom, while along the short hallway is a delightful sitting/reading nook overlooking the living space and the huge waterside-facing windows. The basement, while not fully finished, is a great spot for teens to play table tennis, board games or just hang out and watch TV.

This super cottage will make a really comfortable base for exploring the area, or as a home from home away from the bustle of the city.

Shallow, gradual entry; sandy with small pebbles/rocks. Floating swim raft for jumping and diving. No current in shallow area but becomes gradually stronger between shoreline and island.

During the War of 1812, British troops stationed at nearby Fort Wellington (Prescott) crossed the frozen St Lawrence and burned the American town of Ogdensburg in retaliation for an American raid further upriver. As a result, the American citizens of Ogdensburg, who were profiting by supplying the British Army with food and other necessities, drove out their own American military detachment after the raid so that they could continue doing business with the British Army in Prescott. We loved our stay from Aug 17 to Aug 24 in the cottage. The cottage was abundantly stocked with everything. The cottage is well maintained and well kept. The morning/evening views of the river from the living room were absolute gorgeous. We will definitely come back again.

We have rented a lot of vacation homes and I'd have to say that this is one of the bests we have come across. Pretty much anything and everything you needed or wanted was there. The kitchen was fully equipped with dishes, utensils, a good selection of pots and pans, and small appliances. As well as spices and condiments too. They had kayaks and a place for camp fires and loads of games to play and movies to watch. Most comfortable and very nicely decorated with great views and access to the St. Lawrence River. I would highly recommend this as a great place to stay.

We stayed for a week with 3 kids. Everything was provided - kids loved all the choice of games. Ping pong tournament was a hit. River view was spectacular. Everything was provided for a great week. Only downside for us was the weather - rained most of the week - but location was great for visiting upper Canada village & other attractions nearby.

Another wonderfully restful and enjoyable stay at Pierview.  We had stayed 3 years ago an enjoyed the cottage just as much this week if not more!!
Thank you for all the amenities, hospitality and comforts!
A perfectly sunny, warm week.
Until next time!
Sincerely, The LeClairs

We rented this “cottage” the week of the 1st of July.  From the moment we walked in we knew we were going to have a very relaxing time.  Immediately our adult children with us said, “could you buy this place and we can move in with you.”  Every thing was thought of and provided including fresh herbs in the “deck garden.”  We love it here with the calming relaxation of the St. Lawrence river.  Thank you so much Janet and Jeff for allowing us to be your guests!

We just wanted to let you know that we checked out of the cottage a bit early.
Everything is locked up and we are on the highway headed back to TO. The weather
turned rainy and the water was too choppy to continue to fish. We were fortunate to
have clear sunny skies all week.
Please thank Jeff and Janet for us for sharing their cottage with us. It exceeded our
expectations at every opportunity. The welcome pie, wine and dog treats felt like we
were renting from friends. All the small touches with amenities and decor felt like
staying at a full service hotel. They have really thought of everything.
Thank you

Our group of 5 recently stayed at Pierview Cottage. We had a fabulous time again. This
is our second year. The cottage itself is beautiful, well stocked and very welcoming!
The view of the St Lawrence is wonderful and we could see the ships moving up and
down the river. The large deck was great since we could move from sun to shade
throughout the day. We especially liked the screened in gazebo near the water which
we used all the time. It was much cooler inside from the extreme heat we had that
Thanks once again for our wonderful week at your cottage.
Debbie, Jennie, Peggy, Mary and Laurie
