About This Cottage

The cottage country area north of Ottawa is well-known for myriad lakes, forested vistas and easy driving from the city. When we found this little gem on Lac Bataille, it completely matched this perception and we believe it will become a regular vacation location for many guests.

Nestled in over five acres of forest and wildflowers, Northern Hibiscus overlooks the brilliant blue of Lac Bataille and offers two separate areas to access the lake, with a winding path between them. Both the waterfront areas have shallow walkouts for some great swimming in clear water. The property has been left completely natural so don’t expect manicured lawns and clear areas – instead children and adults alike will enjoy exploring, clambering over fallen trees, and sharing stories around the campfire in the evening. This is like combining the adventure of wilderness camping with the luxury of a fully-equipped cottage.

The cottage sits above the lake and has lovely views to the water from the deck across the front and the screened gazebo. Inside, the living accommodation is light and spacious with a comfortable sitting area with TV (non-satellite). Dining takes place on the large table overlooking the deck and lake and the kitchen is a good size for family catering.

To the rear of the cottage are three bedrooms; one with a queen, one with twin and one with a set of single bunk beds. The bathroom has a tub with shower over.

This is a great cottage for a family to enjoy or a couple to spend a romantic fall weekend. It’s rare to find this amount of privacy at a cottage, and this is one of the few that can be given 5/5 for its private location.

There is no dock. To the west of the property via a marked trail there is another waterfront area with shallow water access. Water shoes are recommended in all lake areas.

The municipality of Val-des-Monts is located about 40 Kms north of Ottawa. Formed in 1974 by the merger of the towns of Perkins, Saint-Pierre-de-Wakefield and Poltimore, it consists mainly of farms and mountainous forests. Many of its residents commute to Ottawa or Gatineau for work but at weekends and holidays the flow is reversed, with many city dwellers taking advantage of the recreational opportunities afforded by the numerous lakes and cottages.
