About This Cottage

For anyone who has ever visited England, the countryside around the village of Westport is reminiscent of the Cotswolds - an area of rolling hills and farmland with yet another spectacular view around every corner.

Westport itself is one of Ontario's hidden secrets - a delightful little town filled with artisan shops and tea rooms. For those needing a stronger beverage, the Westport Brewery and Lost Penny Pub are worth a visit.

But you'll only get there if you can drag yourself away from the cottage with its wrap-around waterfront giving water on three sides - a unique location in itself.

The imposing cottage impresses both outside and in and you'll feel as if you've stepped into the pages of a log-home magazine. The rich wood of the interior is warm and inviting while the wealth of river rock gives a luxury feel.

The overall quality is reflected in the furniture and furnishings over all three levels and through the bedrooms where you'll find comfortable and spacious sleeping areas. With five bedrooms and three full bathrooms - two of which are en-suite - there's plenty of space for a large family or a couple of families vacationing together.

One of the bedrooms has its own sitting area with TV so the teenagers in the group will enjoy their own privacy.

The main floor living area is home to a large kitchen, dining and seating area while the family room on the lower level offers more relaxing space.

To top all of that, the extensive sunroom is where everyone can hang out morning, afternoon or evening to feel the breeze - and shoot it as well!

For the active and outdoor lovers there's a canoe and a couple of kayaks, while swimming off the dock is into deep and clear water.

The 7+ acres of this property will have you feeling you're in your own private haven - and with Westport only 10 minutes away, you won't have to spend too much time away even if you need to pick up some groceries.

We know you'll love this house and its location and can't wait to hear your feedback!

Trivia

The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects Ottawa to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River at Kingston; it is 202 kilometres in length. The name Rideau, French for "curtain", is derived from the curtain-like appearance of the Rideau River's twin waterfalls where they join the Ottawa River. The canal system uses sections of two rivers, the Rideau and the Cataraqui, as well as several lakes. The Rideau Canal is operated by Parks Canada. The canal was opened in 1832 having been built as a precaution in case of war with the United States. Today it is used primarily for pleasure boating, with most of its original structures intact. The locks on the system open for navigation in mid-May and close in mid-October. It is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America, and in 2007 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Source: Wikipedia)
