About This Cottage
Every now and then, a stately blue heron swoops down this cove on Grey Owl Lake, surveys the surroundings and settles in to enjoy the peace and tranquility (and presumably the fishing) in the area. If you're like the heron, you'll want to come to Blue Heron's Cove and spend a week here as well.
Blue Heron's Cove is a wonderful 4-bedroom cottage on a quiet arm of tranquil Grey Owl Lake just a short drive from Parry Sound. With woodwork harkening back to the classic days of cottaging, this cottage combines traditional feel with modern convenience. The main floor houses the kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as two bedrooms and the 4-piece bathroom. The living room has sliders leading to the waterview deck which holds a screened-in gazebo and the propane BBQ. You won't lack modern convenience here - Internet and satellite TV are included!
Just a few steps down from the deck takes you to the waterfront, where the U-shaped dock is your launch pad for water fun - be it fishing, swimming, or just enjoying a drink in the sun. Off to the side of the cottage you'll find a fire pit with a picnic table - perfect for a little quiet time.
Grey Owl Lake is just 20 minutes from downtown Parry Sound, which has everything you need in a cottage town - shops, restaurants, marinas, an arts centre and more. Just a short distance away from the cottage, walking distance if you feel like some exercise, the town of McKellar has a general store that can serve for emergency supplies such as ice cream.

There is a gentle slope to the waterfront. There is a small sandy play area for children in addition to the largely grassy waterfront. Along the shore, reeds may make water entry undesirable from shore but the swimming is good off the dock, where you will find a swim ladder. Heron's Cove is set in a small bay off the larger lake, so you will not be bothered by high boat traffic.
The Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound railway arrived in nearby "Depot Harbour" in 1897, and Parry Sound's first rail service, the Canadian Northern, arrived in 1906. In 1907 the "Canadian Pacific Railway trestle" bridging the Seguin River was completed. At 1,950 feet, this is the longest trestle bridge in Ontario. "Railway Hotels" contributed to the tourism boom beginning at the turn of the century. (Source: www.parrysoundonline.com)
