About This Cottage

Wolfe Island is the largest of the world-renowned Thousand Islands. Located where Lake Ontario ends and the St. Lawrence River begins its flow to the Atlantic, its beautiful sunrises, breath-taking sunsets and spectacular night-time skies are a big part of its charm. The twenty minute ferry ride from Kingston is time enough to get out of the car and watch the shoreline of Kingston recede as the vista of Wolfe Island approaches and the village of Marysville comes into view. Facing Northwest on a halfacre of Reed's Bay waterfront, Hatteras North is a miniature village of 5 individually named buildings connected by boardwalks.

Avon, the main building, hosts an attractive living room with views over the water, a dining area with bench seating and a small well-equipped kitchen. Rodanthe, the lower bedroom cabin, faces the water and is opposite Washout, the bath house. Up a few steps you’ll find Buxton, a spacious king bedroom, and Frisco which has a queen with a bunk over, and a set of twin bunks. This is an ideal family accommodation – kids will love the idea of their own ‘bunkie’ yet are only steps away from the main living accommodation, and couples on a romantic break will enjoy the ‘beach hideaway’ look of either the queen or king cabin.

This new retreat, finished in 2014, was inspired by frequent visits to Cape Hatteras and South America. The easy-access shallow waterfront takes advantage of Kingston's legendary SW thermal winds for kite boarding, wind surfing or sailing, while a short walk away is Big Sandy Bay, a long sandy beach shoreline. Stoke the hot tub fire, play on the mini-beach, play a round of boccee, relax on the deck with a book and/or bevvie, and take in the spectacular sunsets. It doesn't matter what you choose to do, you’re on island time!

Since the ferry runs every hour and it’s free, a run back into Kingston to see a show, or do some major shopping is an easy option. Or bring your passport and take the Horne's Ferry to Cape Vincent in the US. Cycling on the island is a popular past time, so if you like to pedal don’t forget the bikes! Check out the links on the listing and begin planning your Wolfe Island and Hatteras North unforgettable vacation.

Trivia

Wolfe Island can be reached by ferry from both Canada and the United States. The ferry from Kingston (Wolfe Islander III) is operated by the Ministry of Transportation and is free of charge. This ferry operates from two locations: the Summer Dock located in Marysville and the Winter Dock located at Dawson Point. This route includes a bubbler system that stretches to the Barrack Street Dock in Kingston, Ontario. The seasonal Horne's Ferry (May to October) toll ferry to Cape Vincent, New York was first licensed in 1802 and is still operated by the descendants of the first licence-holder and is one of the rare Canada-US international border crossings to be privately operated (the other being the Windsor-Detroit's Ambassador Bridge).
