About This Cottage

Bay Lake Dreaming - kind of says it all, doesn't it? Families looking for something special dream of a well-appointed cottage, with magnificent views, wonderful swimming, top-notch features and a pristine environment.

Bay Lake is a little gem hidden conveniently northeast of Huntsville. Close enough to be convenient for amenities, and defintiely removed from urban life, so there is no mistaking you are getting away from it all, in style. This recently built cottage features an open concept main level with kitchen, dining area, living room, bedroom and 3-piece bath. Upstairs is a 4-piece bath and the two remaining bedrooms. Two attached decks serve different purposes - one for sitting and gazing lazily out over the lake, absorbing the line of trees that divides the blues of the water and sky, the second for sitting and enjoying meals outdoors.

Ouside, you'll find the fire pit, the time honoured place to share fellowship, song, stories and, yes, marshmallows! An elegant staircase winds its way to the waterfront, where you'll find the perfect place to relax, swim and boat - or just relish the sight of your loved ones doing so. The exceptional views come at the expense of climbing those stairs, something those with mobility challenges may wish to consider when booking.

The surrounding area is prime Muskoka. Huntsville lies just to the south with everything you need for shopping, entertainment and supplies. A little closer you will find the smaller towns of Burks Falls, Kearney, Emsdale and Novar - all with their own special spots for quaint shopping or basic groceries...or even a pizza or two. Bookworms will want to make a trip to Bizzy B'zz Bookbin, the quintessential cottage country used bookstore in the area. Cyclists and hikers will enjoy the local roads - largely devoid of automobile traffic and lined with trees. Train your binoculars skyward at night to enjoy the spectacle of a truly dark sky.

All of this awaits you - are you Bay Lake Dreaming?

A series of staircases leads from the cottage to the waterfront. To the left of the dock there is a shallow area with hard packed sand, excellent for waders. Depth off the dock is several feet and mainly free of weeds and also very good for swimming.

Perry Township was opened to settlement in 1873 and the first two Post Offices in the township were established at Scotia and Emsdale, on the Muskoka Road. In 1879, in the north-east corner of the township, settlers Arthur J. O'Neil and his partner William Kearney opened a store on the 12th Concession, near what is now Cherry Hill Road. In the following year a post office was opened in "Kearney Store" and the settlement inherited the name. In those days the closest railway was the Northern at Gravenhurst from which all supplies were brought up the Muskoka Road. Kearney prospered as a logging town with many sawmills and lumber camps. The logs were floated down the Magnetawan River, some as far as Byng Inlet at the mouth of the river on Georgian Bay.
