Ontario cottage country is full of amazing history and campfire stories of how family cottages have evolved over time. Heron’s Point is no exception and has a fantastic story that unfolds as you drive down the tree-lined lane to discover what started as a modest A-Frame, in the Kawartha’s, that has, over the decades, transformed into a beautiful 6-bedroom lakehouse!
Tucked into a quiet bay on Buckhorn Lake, Heron’s Point truly has its own point, with a U-shaped dock extending out into the deeper water. You’re welcome to bring your own boat and explore the channel leading into the Trent-Severn locks or enjoy the provided watercraft. On the side lawn, you’ll find a small sandy entry into the shallow bay, perfect for launching the provided kayaks and for little ones to build sandcastles and catch fish from the shore, here you have the best of both worlds!
Inside the cottage you’re welcomed into an inviting sitting area and family room, this is the original main floor of the cottage. Here, you’ll also find a sun-filled breezeway connecting to a solarium and an eating area overlooking the lake, with plenty of games for hours of entertainment! There are two access points to the large family kitchen and dining area, perfect for entertaining and preparing family meals year-round.
As part of the unique layout, there are three separate sleeping spaces. Off the kitchen you can venture up the spiral staircase to find 2 bedrooms, one of which is perfect for teens with a pull-out couch and retro-video game system to enjoy the best of the 90s and 00s games! This is a great area that’s completely separate from the other bedrooms and perfect for families traveling together who need a quieter space or more privacy for sleeping and afternoon naps.
The second sleeping area is found tucked behind the seating area and beautiful main bathroom. Down this hallway, you’ll find also find a half bath, bunkroom, and two more bedrooms. The primary suite takes up the second upper level at the top of the traditional staircase, with another large bathroom boasting a soaker tub & separate shower. While there is a balcony off this bedroom, please note, it isn’t accessible for seating but you’ll still enjoy the gorgeous lake view from bed through the large windows.
This Ontario cottage rental is ideally suited for multigenerational families that love to vacation together while maintaining a degree of personal space. Located close to Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon there are so many quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants, you could easily spend weeks here and not explore all the area has to offer!
