We always enjoy the variety of Ontario cottage rentals that are made available to our guests. It is the unique flavour of rental cottages in the Muskoka and Almaguin Highlands that makes every vacation special for families.
When we say "Adventure Awaits", we might be making a general statement, but in this case, we're recommending a specific cottage. Located on a very private lake very close to the town of Kearney, this cottage gives your family room to roam, to explore, to play and to reconnect in a private, yet easily accessible, setting. The perfect cottage vacation!
Adventure Awaits is a refurbished farm house that has been enjoyed for decades by its owners. With hundreds of acres that incorporate an entire lake, the family that owns the property has long maintained a wonderful stewardship of the entire area. Family members own a couple of cottages on the opposite side of the lake. The caretaker's residence is down close to the dock - and while he is available to assist in case of emergencies, your privacy is respected and encouraged at all times.
Let's have a look around inside: When you enter, you'll find yourself in a nicely sized foyer with the main bathroom just off to one side. Stepping into the main portion of the cottage takes you to the kitchen, dining area and living room. All are of a generous size, and as a bonus, you will find a haven in the 3-season room just off the living room. A TV package and unlimited WiFi are both available to you, so whether you are working from "home", watching the game or movie or just keeping up with friends and the news, you won't be out of touch here (well, unless you want to be).
Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms, including a large youth bedroom that incorporates an entertainment space with a pool table. We wouldn't be surprised if the teens in your extended family claim this one right away.
While this property shines inside, it gets even better when you open the door and start to explore. There is a very large yard, complete with children's play set, that is perfect for just about anything, including a family game of football or baseball. Perhaps you have hikers in your group. They will be delighted with the several trails that run through the property - and if they feel like a reward, they could instead opt for a stroll into Kearney for ice cream. Another trail of just over 300 yards takes you to the waterfront, where you'll enjoy swimming, kayaking, fishing (when we visited in early winter, there were some nice fresh-caught trout on the dock and destined for the dinner table) or just lounging on the dock.
Out and about, the town of Kearney, as we mentioned, is less than 3 km away and has everything you need in terms of the basics, as well as a couple of eateries. Huntsville, with all it offers (dining, entertainment, more adventure) is less than a half hours drive. Arrowhead provincial Park is less than 20 minutes and the Rain Lake entrance to Algonquin is just 30 minutes distant. Bring your bikes, your camera, your swimsuit

Waterfront
There is a small beach at the waterfront, allowing for shallow entry. The lake bottom is sandy at first, but fairly quickly gets more silty/muddy, and a little rocky. The best swimming is off the dock, where the depth is about 8', but please note it's not safe for diving.
