Another great week at Dobson’s Dam Cottage

Dobson’s Dam Cottage was a hit once again! What a lovely peaceful place to unwind and relax. Our two dogs remembered the place from last summer, and were thrilled once again to enjoy the river and the walking trails with their humans. This cottage has everything you need; wrap around deck with a table and various spots to sit and relax, seating by the river for those hot days, a large lawn area for games with the kids or pups, a fire pit with seating for 6, plus canoes, a paddle boat and kayak. We explored more of the trail system that surrounds the cottage this year. We also revisited the Swan lookout and the River lookout. The river lookout is equipped so you can actually camp out there! The cottage is well appointed with everything you need. Dobson’s Dam Cottage ticks all the boxes.
Beautiful, relaxing, breath taking views

This was our second year renting the cottage. My family and I stayed longer this year. We didn’t want to leave. The cottage came with everything you needed and more. Beautiful scenery and walking trails. The river was nice to canoe and rowboat. So quiet. The waterfalls are so amazing. Thank you to Barb and Al .
A piece of heaven on earth.

So calm. So peaceful. The sounds of the waterfall ever present. Hours of trails to walk and river to kayak. A nature lovers paradise. Look for deer, wild turkeys, quail, heron, etc.
Great spot

Agree with the other reviews – space worked really well for a couple and lots of trails to walk the dogs. They also enjoyed the river, and the sound of the dam is really soothing. Super hot when we were there so sitting by the water was one option and the air conditioning was another! Definitely recommended.
Great place to stay

Dobson’s Dam – The Dam Cottage – was a delight. We were so happy with the place we have already secured our week for next year. The property is amazing, with 6-7 kms. of walking/ATV trails all around the river, providing lots of opportunity for leisurely walks and photo ops. The river runs right by the cottage and is great for soaking in on hot days. The area of the river by the cottage is shallow, but a quick walk along the driveway takes you above the dam and the deeper river for paddle boating, kayaking, canoeing or rowing. There is also a lovely fire pit, with chairs waiting for you. There was a generous supply of firewood also. The cottage itself was spacious and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything you need. Lots of utensils, pots, pans, cups and glasses. There is a dining room area that can seat many people. The beds in all three bedrooms were very comfortable. The 4 piece bath, and 3 piece bath on the lower level, worked well for our family. The surrounding deck gives you another area to hang out, while the patio area below the deck is a cool retreat on a hot and sunny day. Our favourite place to be though was sitting by the river, listening to the water flowing over the dam. Our dogs enjoyed it too.

This is a great spot to unwind and relax. And don’t worry about the heat as it is so comfortable and spacious inside the cottage. We enjoyed floating down the river on the inner tubes and paddling in the kayaks. We also checked out Inglis Falls, impressive, where we went for a 6km hike in the shade! We hope to return next year!!

We rented this property for family day, 2019. Kitchen was well equipped for everything we needed. The surrounding river hike was fabulous. We would definitely go again.
A Perfect Experience

Our family loved staying at this cottage. It’s great for people who love to go out on a pond in little boats or walk in peaceful woods. The cabin is great, very comfortable and well appointed (including the kitchen) and the heat works quite well also. Really the whole experience was perfect. We all slept very well because of the sound of the water rushing over the dam. I did go to the Chesley Grocery Store, it has everything you might need and there is also a hardware store and other necessities in town. I’d like to recommend also the Williamsford Mill nearby. The food and coffee are very good and there are many thousands of used books to browse.

Great place to stay. Pictures do not do it justice. Perfect for family getaway’s, or even a quiet weekend away from it all. The hosts are fantastic and make you feel right at home.

Remote absolutely. Quite yes. Peaceful ooh yeah. Want to come again. Yesss!!! My family of 6 had an absolute perfect summer vacation. Canoes, kayaks, tubes are great for back yard adventurers. No doubt this is a great way to experience Canada in the purest of form.
Some Good Memories Made

The cottage is right at the end of the lane, and sits on a huge piece of property. The North Saugeen river runs alongside the property, with a small dam about 50 metres from the cottage. The driveway extends up to the dam, so launching kayaks, canoes, etc on the “lake” side of the dam is easy, with easily accessible dock. There are quad trails all around the lake and farmland, making for easy walking trails. The cottage itself has spacious living areas up and down, and a well-equipped kitchen (well-equipped meaning lots of cutlery, cooking pots/pans/griddle, and even some helpful spices) There are two bedrooms up, one with a double, and the other with a double-bunk on the bottom, twin on the top. One 4-piece bathroom available upstairs. Downstairs is a spacious master bedroom with a nearby 3-piece bathroom as well. There is a family room downstairs too – so plenty of space for 4 to 6 guests. We had 4, and it worked really well. The mattresses are a bit firmer, so some of us were fine, some had hoped for softer ones – that’s a matter of preference. There is a large deck on 3 sides of the cottage with a bbq available. This was a great getaway, with lots of privacy (no neighbours within sight, well-treed lot) plenty of amenities, and great access to the river for water activities. This was a thanksgiving getaway, so no wading in the river for us, but there is a nice staircase down to the water, to a small sheltered pool, which I bet would be great for cooling off on hot summer days. There is also a nice firepit that we enjoyed with some firewood provided. You don’t need to bring any chairs for the deck or the firepit, there’s plenty there for 6 guests. Thanks for the getaway – some good memories made.
Comfortable, Private Riverside Cottage

My husband and I stayed at Dobson’s Dam last Family Day weekend, and really enjoyed it. We like privacy, and the cottage is nicely located on lots of private land not close to neighbours. The cottage is comfortable, and well equipped. We really enjoyed exploring the private trails on the property on snowshoe, going snowmobiling (right from the cottage property), and just relaxing and enjoying some down time. The cottage is far from the usual cottage route, so there’s no need to worry about getting caught in long weekend traffic either.

Really getting away from it all

We were looking for a spot to completely relax and be on our own for a week. This cottage is very private and peaceful. Enjoyed canoeing down the river and the water above the dam was still warm enough for a swim. The best thing of all was the trail network running through the property – great for daily walks and photo opportunities. The cottage itself is cosy and well equipped for guests.
Manager Response
So glad you enjoyed your stay. It really does have everything for the outdoor lover.
