If you are looking for a delightfully tranquil location within a 25 minute drive from Ottawa, you have found the spot. This older cottage sits right on the lake it is rare for a newer cottage to be so close to the water and benefits from wonderful views. A new dock and deck offers plenty of space to sit and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Since this is a no-motor lake and the cottage is on an acre of land, you can be assured of the tranquility the lake offers.
The cottage is situated at the end of a lane and has plenty of parking space above the steps where you access the cottage. From there a set of rock steps take you to the waterfront area where there is a huge dock with lounging chairs and a deck with patio furniture. A small lawn leads to the water and the access at that point is into about a foot of water with a hard sand/rocky bottom. Off the end of the dock the water is deep enough for diving and there are steps for getting back onto the dock platform.
The traditional cottage has some updates but still has some retro features and rustic appeal more aligned to older properties in this area. The door opens onto a hallway that leads through to a dining area overlooking the lake. The kitchen is fully functional and has a new fridge, although the other appliances are a little dated. However, it has everything you will need to cater for the family.
There are three bedrooms off a hallway leading from the dining room the master is a larger room and the other two are smaller one with a double bed with single bunk over and the other with a double. Please note the wall between the dining room and double room is not built to the ceiling so sound will travel between the two rooms.
On the other side of the dining area are a few steps leading down to a sunken living room with a fireplace. The comfortable furniture provides ample space for everyone to congregate and enjoy a DVD (there is no satellite TV), or simply relax with a good book when the weather is not so convivial.
If you can tear yourself away from the swimming, fishing and other waterside activities, take a drive out to explore the pretty town of Wakefield, hike in the Gatineau Forest or enjoy adventure activities at Lafleche. There is plenty to do in the area, and of course if you are visiting from afar youll want to take a few days out to travel into Ottawa and see some of the sights of our wonderful capital city just 30 minutes from the cottage door!
This is a great winter spot too, with skating on the lake, local cross country ski trails and downhill available locally at Edelweiss and Mont Cascades.
