Just 30 minutes north of downtown Ottawa is this cute cottage on tranquil Lac Champeau. The location is everything here since it’s close enough for a weekend away, yet perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding countryside, hiking and biking in summer and skiing in the winter. With the waterside village of Wakefield 20 minutes away and plenty of larger lakes to visit, Simple Pleasures is the ideal base for an activity vacation.
Of course you might just want to sit and relax by the water and with a dock to sit and enjoy the sunset, and a fully screened sunroom there’s plenty of options. There is a small sandy beach with shallow water although the lakebed is soft and muddy underfoot so the best bet for swimming is paddling out to the community swim raft moored in a deeper section of the lake.
Inside, the cottage has been nicely renovated and offers two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with a double bed with single bunk over the top. The kitchen is small but nicely equipped with stove, fridge, microwave and small appliances and there is a dining table with seating for 4.
In the evening, relax on the leather couch and enjoy a DVD or video or sit out in the screened sunroom and enjoy the sights and sounds of an evening on the lake. There’s a fire pit for that marshmallow roast too.
We think this is a great spot for a budget getaway in any season.
