Golden Cottage is aptly named. Nestled among towering pine trees and sitting above pretty Lac St Germain, an hour north of Ottawa, this is a perfect location for a relaxing break in a truly natural environment.
The owners have taken care to retain the natural beauty of the property so you won’t find lawned gardens or fancy staircases down to the water. The reward is a winding pathway covered with soft pine needles leading to a spectacular waterfront with clear water for swimming, boating, and fishing. The dock stretches out into deeper water making diving and jumping a pleasure. Imagine sitting out here in the early morning listening to the sound of loons, as the soft mist rises off the lake, or sunbathing on a balmy afternoon, cooling off with the occasional swim. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it?
You will love the privacy too. Golden Cottage nestles in woodland and although there is a nearby neighbour you'll still feel you have the lake to yourselves whether on the dock, or deck or enjoying the large screened sunroom.
Inside the cottage the wealth of pine and cedar and soaring ceilings will take your breath away. Space is the best way to describe the layout – on each level. The main floor is open-plan with a well-equipped kitchen divided from the dining area by a breakfast bar. The living and dining area occupy the waterside of the cottage with great views out to the water, a log fireplace for those cooler evenings and a stereo system with i-Pod dock for your entertainment. To one side is the sunroom and to the other is a hallway leading to two large bedrooms and a bathroom. An impressive staircase leads to the upper floor loft area where there’s a comfortable seating area with pullout sofa bed, and another bedroom and bathroom. All the rooms are comfortably furnished and attractively decorated.
The lower floor houses a home theatre system for watching DVDs and a games area with both pool and foosball tables; there is also a propane log-effect fireplace here.
Exploring in the area could take you to pretty Saint Pierre de Wakefield in the Val Des Monts region, or a run down to Gatineau Parc. It really is up to you how active or relaxed you want to be, but rest assured the owners know the area well and will provide you with plenty of ideas for things to see and do.
