Millions of years in the making! Set amongst windswept pines, the Pearl of Georgian is perched majestically atop a dramatic outcropping of Canadian Shield rock, staring down the length of a beautiful arm of Georgian Bay. The cottage is located just north of Parry Sound, so while you can soak up "Group of Seven" atmosphere, you're a convenient drive to civilization and many tourist attractions.
Newly constructed during 2008/2009, this cottage was built with the view in mind. Full length windows dominate the living and dining areas, and a loft puts you high on a perch to savour the splendour that the bay has to offer. The south-facing living room is bathed in light and seats several for spirited conversation or simple relaxation. Adjacent to the living room is a dining room and a sitting room with a fireplace for those looking for something cosy on a chilly evening or Winter's day. Screened-in sun porches are located at both ends of the cottage, letting you soak up more than just the view. Finally, an expansive deck area adorns the lake side of the cottage, again utilizing the landscape to maximum effect.
For 2010, an extensive games area has been added on the lower level with air-hockey, pool, and foosball tables as well as a seating area and dart board. It's hard to imagine a group that would not be entertained in this setting.
A large fully equipped kitchen should satisfy any chef, and the deck of course offers a barbecue for those whose culinary pursuits are more suited to a grill.
With two large bedrooms upstairs and an additional bedroom on the main level, the cottage is equipped to sleep 10 people very comfortably. A futon in the loft can double as sleeping accommodation if someone cannot tear themselves away from the view for the night.
The cottage waterfront is expansive. Some of the shoreline is naturalized and you may be lucky enough to spot a variety of wildlife in the reeds. The area by the dock is clear and good for swimming. Adventurous boaters, of course, have access to greater Georgian Bay, while others may simply wish to explore the local area by canoe or kayak. Two of each are provided, so your group can form its own flotilla as you explore the bay.
If your group is larger or looking for some privacy from each other, a separate 2-bedroom bunkie is available. With two bedrooms, 3-piece bath, and a living area of its own, this might be a great place for the teens to enjoy a little independence while still being close enough for mom and dad to keep watch. Please note that as it is not heated, the bunkie is only available between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving.
Guests with a passion for baked goods can enjoy freshly home baked Swiss/Eurpoean style bread and other items offered by the W-Ranch farm within walking distance. Orders, however, require two days advance notice (705-342-7350).
