We were excited to find this great spot on Six Mile Lake because it's in a terrific location for vacations at any time of year; close to ski hills for winter sports, and with wonderful waterfront for summer fun. The cottage won't disappoint either and will accommodate two families easily.
The scenic 10-minute drive off Highway 400 brings you to a circular driveway in front of this newer cottage and the brief glimpses of the lake tell you that you've arrived somewhere special. The property sits on nearly 4 acres of land with 250ft of sandy shoreline. The water is shallow at the shore and deepens gradually to several feet off the end of the dock, offering safe wading for the youngsters and swimming at a decent depth for older children and adults. There's tons of space for children to play on the grassy lawns and amongst the woodland. There is some weed around 20ft out from the shoreline that extends for another 10ft or so until the water clears out again.
The interior of the cottage is spacious with entry through the front door to a large lobby area which is great in the winter time for boots and jackets. The kitchen, dining and living area are open plan and have huge windows facing the lake with a walkout to a large deck. It's a convivial space with seating at the breakfast bar; on a comfortable L-shaped couch or at the large dining table. The screened gazebo on the deck is a pleasant area to enjoy eating al fresco on a hot summer's evening. Of course there's a barbecue out on the deck too for the outdoor chef.
Two bedrooms and a large bathroom are off a small hallway by the living room, and one of these bedrooms is also accessed by a door from the lobby, giving more added privacy. The master has sliding doors to the deck. The lower floor which is accessed by a staircase from the hallway has two more good size bedrooms and a further bathroom. A family room with pool table and dart board and a walkout to the waterside lawn completes this lovely accommodation.
Six Mile Hideaway makes a super location for year round vacations. The hour and a half drive from the city means weekend breaks are not taken up with travelling time and it is only 10 minutes off the highway so a run out for forgotten groceries doesn't take up valuable sun-seeking time. On the lake, Six Mile Provincial Park is just a canoe ride away, or you could rent a boat to explore. We think this will be a very popular cottage so early booking may be wise. |
