Two words - Lake Muskoka. There are few other words in the English language that say so much about the Canadian cottage scene. Muskoka Treetops is a wonderful traditional cottage located in Muskoka Bay, just a short drive from Bala / Gravenhurst and is the perfect choice for families of up to 8 people. With large windows and extensive decking focused on the lake, you will be peering through huge, ancient pines across the bay into yesteryear. You may catch a glimpse of the RMS Segwun steamship taking passengers on a tour of all three Muskoka lakes, but their visit is short compared to your longer, more relaxing stay!
Inside the cottage, you will find typical Muskoka wood construction with 4 bedrooms that sleeps up to 8 people. There is even a crib if you have an infant along.
The living and dining areas stretch out along the back of the cottage, taking advantage of the building's position overlooking the water. Enjoy meals in a comfortable indoor setting or unwind on the deck with your favorite grilled recipe, courtesy of the barbeque. If the bugs come out, huddle around the chimnea or escape to the screened-in gazebo.
Next take a walk down the stairs to the waterfront / boathouse and take it easy on the lower deck. The water is 9 feet deep off the dock, so you can dive right in and enjoy some deep water swimming. A canoe is also available if you want to take part in that time-honored tradition. In fact, you may even want to paddle a couple of kilometres to the Muskoka Wharf, where you can replace those calories with some pizza! Moreover, if your vacation involves serious boating, you can rent or launch your own boat from the wharf in Gravenhurst and store it in the 2-slip boathouse provided. Later in the evening, you can warm up to a functional fire pit close to the lake.
Back inside the cottage, you can relax and enjoy the lake view, take in a movie on the DVD player, or perhaps take advantage of the fireplace if nature throws a late cool night your way. Although the whole point is to get away from it all, if you absolutely have to stay in touch with the rest of the world, then don't forget your laptop. There is wireless high-speed internet available and cell reception is fine for calling in sick ..... you will be tempted!.
As mentioned, the water is relatively deep at the shore and we would recommend caution for families with non-swimmers or young children. In addition, the railing on the upper deck is low so the view is not obstructed, however climbing toddlers must be watched. Bring the family to Muskoka Treetops, an ideal base from which to explore all that Muskoka has to offer!
