| Please note that The High Life Cottage will not be offered for rent in 2012. |
Even before you open the door to High Life Cottage, the windows will reveal the main attraction of this cottage - the wonderful view of beautiful High Lake, complete with island scenery!
In the tradition of the Muskoka Lakes, High Life offers a classic cottage atmosphere set amongst magnificent natural scenery. High Lake is pristine and clear, and on any given day you will find it being enjoyed by swimmers and boaters alike. You won't find it overly crowded though, as the lake is not overrun by cottages - less than 50 are on the lake. As with most lakes of this nature, the water deepens fairly quickly off the shore, making cooling off as simple as jumping off the dock (the depth is about 4 feet here, so deep diving is cautioned against). Those with toddlers would be advised to consider this however, as it means keeping close watch when at water's edge.
Inside the cottage, you will find the living room, kitchen and dining area all on the main level. The living room takes advantage of the cottage's perch above the lake to focus on the wonderful view. The kitchen contains all the basics you need for cottage cooking, with the requisite barbeque found on the deck, accessible via sliding doors from the living room. There is a small dining table for groups of up to 4, with additional tables available for larger groups.
The cottage is a split-level. Ascending a half-flight of stairs takes you to the master bedroom, which again enjoys a view of the lake. Also on this level is a bathroom larger than just most you will find in cottages, with shower, tub and double sinks.
Climbing another half-level takes you to two more bedrooms, as well as a TV/games room, which will no doubt be a gathering place for the kids when Mom and Dad have nodded off for the night. There are plenty of board games for family fun, along with a TV/DVD combination for movie-nights and a sofa-bed if you require an extra sleeping spot.
You can see from the photos that the deck offers wonderful lakefront views. Of course, rather than just observing, you may want to be a part of it...so a quick descent down the stairs and Canadian Shield granite and you are at the dock, your point of embarcation for swimming or exploring the lake by canoe.
The High Life is a wonderful spot for families keen to experience the adventure and seclusion that is Muskoka. The only hard part will be leaving.
