Six Mile Lake is one of our favourites with its easy access from the city and true cottage country feel. This unique property will surely become a favourite with our clients with great waterfront, a neat cottage and a very funky bunkie!
There's a story behind every cottage and this one provides the Elson Cottage with its character. The cottage has been in the same family since it was built by Grandfather Elson in the thirties and has seen some changes over the years to modernise and create a comfortable space. At one time a religious retreat, along with a larger cottage on the neighbouring lot, it has now reverted to a super vacation location. The cottage next door has been sold but it still shares a driveway so as you arrive it can seem a little disconcerting to see this much larger property to one side. However once on the deck and waterfront you will enjoy your own space to relax and play in the water.
The cottage and its guest house provides accommodation for up to 10 people and the layout offers more privacy than most for two families vacationing together. The door from the deck opens into a TV/reading room that has one of the bedrooms and a bathroom leading off it. Another door leads into the open plan kitchen, living and dining area with a further two bedrooms and another bathroom at the rear of the cottage.
The kitchen is fully equipped to handle your cottage cooking needs and now includes a dishwasher for your convenience. There's plenty of pots and pans and small appliances including a blender, coffee maker, George Foreman grill and microwave. In the living area, a new L-shaped sofa will seat half a dozen comfortably for movie nights, while the dining table will be host to many evenings of Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly. With a good supply of games, DVDs and videos, even rainy days are catered for.
Outside the cottage a small deck has a patio table and chairs and there are additional wooden chairs for sitting out and viewing the action on the lake. More reclining chairs and Muskoka chairs are located on the deck and other waterfront spots so there is plenty of room to spread out. A short pathway leads to the bunkie which is a great spot for teens in the family to hang out, with three sets of bunk beds, a retro diner table & benches, couches, TV and a refrigerator. You may not see your offspring again for the duration of the vacation. Now there's a bonus!
The waterfront is where most of the action happens and there is a shallow, walk-in section as well as deeper water off the end of the dock. While the area is generally weed-free, you may notice some weed after periods of very warm weather. The Six Mile Lake Marina is in sight so you'll see plenty of water traffic as boats go to and fro, but it's far enough that swimming is safe off, and around the dock. It's handy to have the marina within walking distance for ice cream and pop!
The Elson Cottage makes a super location for year round vacations. The hour and a half drive from the city means weekend breaks are not taken up with travelling time and it is only 2 minutes off the highway so a run out for forgotten groceries doesn't take up valuable sun-seeking time. Rent a boat from the marina and explore this beautifu lake, or just kick back on the dock and relax. |
