Anyone familiar with the Muskoka area is well acquainted with the beautiful little resort town of Bala. The town is found where Lake Muskoka meets the Moon River, and is a wonderful place to soak up the atmosphere of Cottage Country, be it for ice cream, a view of Bala Falls, or spending an evening at Kee to Bala enjoying a live band.
Just on the outskirts of Bala lies pretty Long Lake. This lake, dotted with cottages, combines the relaxing world of cottage life on the lake with the convenience of having the town within reasonable walking distance. Long Lake is also where you'll find Bala's Little Secret.
We were delighted when we first set our eyes on this cute-as-a-button A-frame that has been lovingly restored by the owners as a rental unit for couples and small families. The exterior is reminiscent of an alpine chalet with a generous deck providing wonderul lake views. A short walk across a gently sloped lawn takes you past the fire pit to the clear waters of the lake. You will find the swimming wonderful, with a gradual sandy entry.
The water is full of fun here, and Mom and Dad will want to take the kids out for a ride around the lake in the paddle boat - and the kids will not be able to wait to get back to play on the water trampoline! Should you wish to bring your own boat, it can be launched directly from the shoreline.
Inside the cottage, you will find a cosy, clean and restful environment. Both floors are open concept, letting the light flow in. The living room enjoys a view of the trees and water, with the fully equipped kitchen and cosy dining nook at the rear. The 3-piece washroom is also on the main level. Up the stairs you will find the sleeping loft, with a double bed on one side and two single beds looking out over the lake on the other. Families with very young children or mobility issues should be aware that the staircase is quite steep (a bit of a cross between a ladder and staircase).
Bala's Little Secret is what you are looking for if you are a couple or small family looking for "that nice little cottage" for a relaxing getaway at an attractive price!
Note that the owner's cottage is adjacent to this cottage. On weekends, the owners are in residence and during this period, the use of the water trampoline may be shared with the owner's family. During the remainder of the week when the owners are not there, tenants will have access to the owner's waterfront as well.
