The Georgian Bay east coast is one of Ontario's great treasures. From Collingwood to Killarney, the Bay delights with a variety of islands, bays, beaches and landscapes. Some of the most prized treasures are the beaches at the southern end.
Just a few minutes north of world-famous Wasaga is Woodland Beach, where we were delighted to find Woodland Bend Cottage. Close enough to the tourist attractions of Wasaga yet far enough removed to provide quiet relaxation, Woodland Bend has much to offer. Woodland Beach is just steps from the cottage and Bluewater/Balm Beach is a short drive away. The latter is famous for its clear water and large sand dunes. Perfect for a family looking to spend some quality time at the beach while exploring all the area has to offer. A day's outing may take you to the nearby Wye Marsh, historic Midland or Discovery Bay at Penatanguishene.
We first visited Woodland Bend on the most miserable of rainy November nights, yet found the cottage interior clean, bright and welcoming, with decor that hints at properties costing much more. A spacious, well-equipped kitchen and dining area will allow mom or dad to prepare meals to satisfy those "swimming appetites", enjoying your meals with a hint of Victorian charm - or you can choose to eat in a more casual eating space adjacent the living area.
The living room, with a great Georgian Bay view, offers comfortable seating and amenities for inside times, with stereo,large screen HD cable TV and DVD for family entertainment,a feature wall with propane fireplace, as well as a selection of reading material for the bookworms among you.
The master bedroom is set away from the rest of the cottage, with its own ensuite, giving mom and dad privacy to catch up on a little sleep. Simple elegance would describe the bedrooms, suitable for that all-important recovery of the sleep-deficit built up during the rest of the year. A barbeque and deck complete the cottage experience for you.
Woodland Bend Cottage is located across a very quiet cottage road from the beach access path. It is about 50 metres from the cottage to the waterfront.
Of course, Woodland Bend is not just for Summer, and the skiers among you will be happy to know you can return for Winter weekends or weeks, with a short 25 minute drive to Snow Valley Ski Resort, 40 minutes to Horsehoe Valley or Blue Mountain, and about an hour to Moonstone.
