We’ve been looking for another cottage on Farlain Lake for a while and we're glad we found this one!
Honeybears has everything you want in a cottage – a traditional atmosphere yet clean and comfortable, removed from the big city hustle and bustle but close enough to drive to without any rest stops (we’ll forgive you if you stop for ice cream somewhere), two levels of living space, plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the water, and a nice sandy beach area!
The waterfront of this cottage is great for a family. A sandy beach area continues into the water to make a great play area for toddlers and non-swimmers, and the lake gradually deepens further out. Majestic trees give you the option of sitting in full sun, full shade, or pretty much any combination in the middle. An expansive deck as well as a covered gazebo area with a generous selection of patio furnishings are the perfect spots to relax and keep an eye on the kids at the same time. There is a also a fire pit for those evening campfires that are essential to the cottage experience.
Farlain Lake is a hidden gem in Huronia. About 7 kilometres in length, it is partially surrounded by Awenda Provincial Park to the north and west, and is just a few minutes west of Penatanguishene and historic Midland. The lake is clean and generally calm, perfect for exploring in small craft.
The cottage itself is very comfortable and relaxing. The top level houses the kitchen and eating areas, as well as a dual level family/living room complete with gas fireplace. The dining room faces the water and the kitchen, tucked away at the back, provides everything you need for cottage cooking. Three bedrooms on the upper level sleep a total of seven in comfort.
The lower level is a mini-retreat on its own. There is another family room, complete with TV and entertainment center, as well as a pool table on which you can determine the family 8-ball champion (afficianados of the game should note that the table is wood, not slate). Mom and Dad might want to pick this level as their own, as it contains a wonderful private bedroom with woodstove and a full ensuite complete with whirlpool tub.
