Among These Branches

Penetanguishene, Georgian Bay

We were delighted to be able to see the owners renovate this traditional Georgian Bay cottage. We think you'll be just as thrilled with the results as they are!

Located near the hamlet of Sawlog Bay, just west of Penetanguishene on the shores of Georgian Bay, Among these Branches boasts a wonderful waterfront, peaceful surroundings, and a relaxing atmosphere. A week spent here will surely be good for body and soul.

When you arrive, you will notice that the cottage is aptly named, shaded under a canopy of trees. A grassy area at the front of the cottage is available for a game of frisbee or catch, and the barbeque on the front deck will certainly see some use during your stay. The owner suggests you bring a flashlight with you - night time in cottage country can be very dark when you aren't used to it.

The waterfront though, is of course where this property really shines. Just outside the cottage beyond the back deck lies the sand that cottage vacations are made of. The perfect place for all ages to swim, relax and build a castle or two, or you may wish to simply relax and take in views of Giant's Tomb Island.

The sand extends to the waterfront, and depending on the weather, the water entry can change from week to week. Generally, it is pebbly/stony for a few feet, so you'll want to wear some swim shoes, but once you are out about 10-15 feet into the lake, you will be standing on hard packed sand.

Inside the cottage the cosy living room is a gathering place, with its ever present view of the water though large picture windows. There is a TV/DVD combination (no satellite or cable, but Global and CHCH are clear) for movies in the evening or should the weather turn inclement. A gas fireplace will keep you warm in case of a cooler day.

The kitchen is open concept and clean. You will find all the basics you need for cottage cooking, and the dining table will sit 6 or 7.

There are 3 bedrooms in the cottage, 2 with doubles and one with twin bunks (note that there is a suggested 100-lb limit on the top bunk and 120-lb limit on the lower. For overflow or privacy, there is a lovely bunkie with a queen bed.

Typical of many cottages of the era, Among These Branches supplements its 2-piece washroom with a very private outdoor shower, with hot running water.

If you want to rent a DVD or need basic items, you should be able to find them in nearby Penetanguishene.

If your family is looking for a traditional Georgian Bay cottage experience with a great beach at a value price, why not put yourself Among These Branches?
