Acorns

Lafontaine, Georgian Bay

Note - Click on any photo to enlarge it

We love to see a beachfront listing come along in this area since they are so rarely offered. Acorns is named for the oak trees that line the sandy path running directly from the deck of this cottage to the wonderful beach area. The cottage is located in the small town of Lafontaine, removed from the crowded beaches at Wasaga yet close enough to easily drive in to all the attractions that make the area so popular.

Inside Acorns, you are treated to an updated version of the classic Huronia-style beach house. West facing windows let in the sunshine and gently persuade you to come to the water's edge. The deck is expansive, and gives a number of options for both shade and sun. A gated fence runs around the perimeter of the yard, keeping toddlers at bay yet allowing them plenty of space to roam. There are 3 bedrooms, with sleeping for up to 8 (maximum 6 adults). The kitchen has everything you need for preparing meals, and the cook can also keep tabs on the barbeque while enjoying the deck. The outdoors will capture your attention, but in the event of a rainy day, 800 channels on the satellite TV system provides entertainment for all...and if you really have seen them all, there is a games console for more intereactive fun.

There are fire pits at the front and back of the cottage, allowing your group to enjoy the time-honoured tradition of toasting a marshmallow or two. The beach is the main attraction here - after all, it's what you came for, right? It won't disappoint. There is a large beach area, shared between a handful of private cottages. The beach is a rolling mix of sand and stone, with a path cleared to allow a soft walk out to the sand bars in the crystal waters of Georgian Bay.

For those that have been looking for sandy beachfront, your search has ended!

In honour of the region's French history, Lafontaine hosts the annual Le Festival du Loup, a festival of francophone music and culture which celebrates the death of a wolf that terrorised the village in the 19th century, which takes place in July.
