Erie's Edge is a delightfully cozy cottage that sits as close to the water as you can be without getting into a boat! Located just south of the small town of Wheatley, the cottage is perfect for a small family looking for a southwestern Ontario week away.
The cottage itself is neat as a pin. Located on a street of waterfront cottages, it is serviced with a municipal water supply and is thus able to offer amenities not always found in cottages, including a washer/dryer and dishwasher. The downstairs area holds most of the space, including the living and kitchen areas, the main bath and laundry room, a bedroom for 1 and a dining area/sun room facing the lake. The latter is the perfect spot to enjoy an early breakfast and catch a magnificent sunrise over the lake. The living room has comfortable seating for your group, along with an entertainment centre with satellite TV and a CD player. A gas fireplace supplements the forced air gas furnace in case the nights turn cool or if you visit in the non-summer months.
Upstairs is the master bedroom and another single bedroom, both with pleasant lake views - perfect for falling asleep to the lapping of the waves on the rocks below.
The rear of the cottage is where you will spend a lot of time, with multi-level decking and patio furniture providing for full-sun relaxation as well as a more screened seating area should the breezes turn cool or the sun too intense. The decking extends right to the lake, which meets the shore on the rocks below. While swimming here would be for only the most adventurous individuals, there is a public sand beach less than a kilometre away.
Very unusual in a cottage at this price is the inclusion of a hot tub. Also located with the back deck amenities, this is a wonderful haven during the afternoon or under the stars at any time of year.
The front yard has a chain-linked fence with a gate, keeping adventurous toddlers at bay in case they decide to wander, and there is parking for 2 vehicles.
Venturing out, you will discover that the area offers many opportunities for sight-seeing and culture. Point Pelee National Park is just 10 minutes away, offering picnic areas, canoeing, swimming, hiking and cycling. Why not rent a bike and cycle to Canada's most southern point on the mainland? Photographers and birders will also love the area, with bird-watchers being particularly interested in the many species found at Hillman Marsh, also just a short drive away. Of course, the Pelee area wineries will be well-known to those keen on the grape, and await the discoveries of those new to wine tours.
