Highly desirable Balsam Lake is home to this spacious and comfortable cottage and guest house. Less than two hours from the city; with a prime southerly aspect and within walking distance of Balsam Lake Provincial Park, we can't think of a better location for a family vacation.
This lovely cottage has recently been renovated and decorated throughout and now offers spacious accommodation in five bedrooms in the main cottage and two further bedrooms in the guest house. While still retaining a cottage look and feel, the tasteful decor has brought the cottage up to date and lends a sophisticated look the property. We love the changes that have been made.
There are cottages to either side of Mandalay but the location of the cottage on the property offers a good amount of privacy. The self contained guest house was the original cottage that was moved and set back to behind the main house and it makes the place ideal for an extended family to enjoy time together yet have their own space. The guest cabin is only available for weekly high and mid season rentals.
The interior of the cottage is light-filled and spacious. A hallway opens into the great room with huge windows overlooking the lake. The living room has comfortable seating and a non-functioning decorative free-standing woodstove. The dining area to one side has sliding doors to the newly built deck and a table that will comfortably seat 8 people. In the large cottage there is hardwood flooring throughout with area rugs offering a splash of colour to complement the wood on both floor and walls.
The designated cook will enjoy the large kitchen with a good range of small appliances as well as a brand new stove and dishwasher. A breakfast bar with a couple of stools are great for chef watchers!
On the main floor are 3 good sized bedrooms; the master has sliding doors to the deck. A washroom with bath and shower over, and a 2 pce powder room completes the accommodation on this level.
Stairs from the hallway lead to a large family room with sofa and chairs and a wall mounted TV with stereo surround sound. An air hockey table will occupy the children if you can drag them in from the waterfront. Two more large bedrooms and another bathroom on this level create a separate area for either the children, or for two families to enjoy the cottage and each have some privacy.
The guest cabin is the original cottage which was moved to the back of the property when the main house was built in the 80's. This has now been raised and an additional deck added which has created a completely self contained space with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a small kitchen/living room. The guest cabin is only available with weekly rentals in high and mid season
Outside the cottage a gently sloping lawn leads to the waterfront which is accessed by a couple of steps. The water at the shoreline is about 2ft with hard sand and a few rocks. The newly built dock extends about 30ft and the water level at the end of the dock is around 5ft.
The owner has worked hard to create a lovely space for his guests to enjoy and we are sure they will do just that!
