Fabulous views are the order of the day at this peaceful cottage located on delightful Chandos Lake. This beautiful lake near the village of Apsley in the north Kawartha region could be your home for a tranquil vacation at any time of the year.
Built six years ago to the owner's specifications, the cottage boasts a wealth of wood with cathedral ceilings and an open loft overlooking the living area. The front door opens onto a hallway off which are the three bedrooms and bathroom which has a Victorian claw foot tub (no shower). The well-equipped open plan kitchen, dining and living area is divided by a breakfast bar with bar stools for chef watching. Gather around the dining table for a few board games or relax in the living area and take in a movie or two. On cooler evenings there's a propane stove. The loft has more seating and a futon, TV and a Foosball table so will probably be home for the kids much of the time indoors, while mom and dad relax downstairs.
But why stay indoors when the outside beckons? A deck with table and patio umbrella are just outside the sliding doors from the living room, and there's a barbecue for trying out all those grilling recipes. In the evenings, the fire pit will be the venue for marshmallow and smores and discussion of the day's activities.
At the waterfront there's a small sandy beach with shallow water for about 15 ft out before the lake bottom gets softer. At the end of the 72ft T-shaped dock the water is at a depth of about 4ft with silt underfoot and is fine for swimming. The Muskoka chairs on the dock are just what you need for kicking back and relaxing at any time of the day and enjoying the beautiful views.
Getting to this wonderful location is easy - under 3 hours from Toronto or less than 2 from Oshawa. Once here, there is plenty to see and do. Silent Lake Provincial Park is just 20 minutes drive. The attractive riverside town of Bancroft is nearby with its art galleries, craft shops and restaurants and the village of Apsley is close by for general groceries. But, if you simply want to chill out and enjoy, settle down on the deck and just take in the view.
