Located between the summer hotspot of Grand Bend and the quaint charm of Bayfield, Hummingbird Cottage provides a great location for you and your family to enjoy all the fun of cottage life.
The first thing you will notice upon arrival is the open space. Hummingbird has a large yard, perfect for lawn games or tossing a ball around. Tired athletes can join the more-sedentary folk on the large wraparound decks for cool drinks and conversation at any hour of the day, in sun or shade.
Inside this recently remodelled cottage, you will immediately feel at home. Sleeping up to 6 people, Hummingbird is well suited to medium size groups or multi-generational families. The wood accented living spaces project a clean, cottagey atmosphere and the carpeted bedrooms located in the back of the cottage will ensure a good night's sleep. The eat-in kitchen easily sits 6 people and is equipped with everything you need to prepare those cottage meals, unless of course, you opt for a barbecue, which is available for your use on the deck. The living room invites evening or rainy day gatherings, with an entertainment center and video library.
While the cottage is great, you will no doubt want to spend your days enjoying the yard, the beach and the surrounding area. At the end of the laneway you will find the beach access and while getting to the water requires a descent of approximately fifty steps, you will be well rewarded for your efforts. The waterfront is generally sandy, and depending on what storms bring about, may be pebbly at times. Children will enjoy playing on the beach and wading into the shallow waters. If you want to head out for deeper water, you should bring some swim shoes as there may be some stones and rocks further out into the lake. Each day on Lake Huron is different. You might wake up to find the lake as calm and clear as glass, while other days may provide fabulous opportunities to play in the waves.
The surrounding area has much to offer as well. Just 15 km to the south, Grand Bend bustles with summer activity, and while you are located far enough away that you won't be bothered by crowds near the cottage, a short drive will take you to the amusement parks, beaches, golf courses, playhouse, car races and more that Grand Bend offers.
If you instead choose to explore north of the cottage, you will find Bayfield alive in the summer with antique shops and boutiques, as well as restaurants and a marina. A little further on you will come to the larger center of Goderich, self-proclaimed as "Canada's Prettiest Town". It offers small town flavour along with shopping and amenities of a city.
